Money Makeover is back this week but with a bit of a difference seeing as it's the Half Term Holidays which means that most of us will have the kids at home with us this week. Over the last couple of years, I've written and shared lots of ideas about how to have fun on a budget so I thought I'd make this week's Money Makeover post a bit of a round up of some of these posts to give you some ideas on what to do this week without spending a fortune....There you go. That little lot should keep you busy this week and there's so many ideas that I bet you could have a great … [Read more...]
Get outside and have some family fun….
I know how tempting it is to stay inside snuggled up as this time of year.I know because we spent half of November and December last year in the house for one reason or another - the weather was awful, the nights were dark, one or more of us was ill for weeks on end and really because we couldn't be bothered. That time of year seems to make us all want to stay indoors where it's warm.Lately we're really trying though and we're trying to get back into the habit of spending at least 20 minutes outside every day - no matter the weather! I'd be lying if I said I always loved it and never … [Read more...]
A Pan of Potion….
It's completely normal for your 11 year old to send you a text when you're sat at work to ask if her and her 8 year old brother can actually make a potion, isn't it?Naturally I said no but then my working mum guilt kicked in and I ended up letting them under the strict instruction that they didn't make a mess and they only used juice and cake sprinkles! They clearly thought it through because half an hour later I got another text - this time with a photo of a recipe that they'd written for their potion:They'd put so much effort in to the recipe that I didn't have the heart … [Read more...]
Bobbing for apples….
This is quite possibly the most fun thing we've done in a long time - it certainly made us laugh more than I can remember us laughing before. At one point I literally had tears rolling down my face although that could have been because Master Frugal burped in the water on his last go ;-) … [Read more...]
#SummerofFrugalFun – where to look when you’re out of ideas….
We're more than half way through the Summer Holidays now and if you're anything like me, you're probably running out of ideas for keeping the kids occupied. It turns out that even though I had a list quite literally as long as my arm filled with things that we could do together, we have run out of ideas for things to do (other than the days out that we have planned in) with nearly three weeks left to go.On the plus side, we've had an amazing three weeks so far - we've done so much fun stuff and spent so much time together and we can't wait to see what fun the next few weeks will bring … [Read more...]
Today we sailed, we sunk and then got robbed….
Today we decided to enter the Tots100 Center Parcs challenge (although to be fair we decided to do this at the weekend and the heavens opened as soon as we opened the door to the craft cupboard) which meant that we had to build a boat and then sail them.I was torn between taking over the making over the boats so that they would at least float for a few minutes and I had visions of a lovely one made of pastel coloured paper with a lovely floral Cath Kidston sail but in the end, I decided to let the kids do their own thing.Which is why we ended up with two bright looking crafts that … [Read more...]
