Today we've been making a treasure hunt for Mr Frugal when he comes in from work and it took me back to the ones we used to do for the kid when they were younger. We haven't done one for ages though so we thought it was time to sort that out! We're starting with one for Mr Frugal - mainly because he's not in at the minute so clue writing and hiding is much easier but also because we haven't seen him in a week as we've been away so the kids wanted to do something for him as a surprise.Obviously, the idea of a treasure hunt is to follow a series of clues that will ultimately lead you … [Read more...]
#my99psummer – Just how much fun stuff can you buy for £10.00….
I know that you don't need money to have fun.If your children are anything like mine, they could have fun together in an empty room. They can make their own fun out of whatever they have at hand, whether it's an empty cardboard box or a pen and paper. But, this is the Summer Holidays which means that they have six long weeks stretching out in front of them and with so much time to fill, it seems very likely that we're going to need a helping hand to get them through without hearing the dreaded I'm bored words. We're well prepared this year as we have our wall planner and our I'm … [Read more...]
#SummerofFrugalFun – Cooking with kids….
One of our favourite stay at home activities is baking (and eating the results).I try and stay away from anything complicated as I just want them to enjoy being in the kitchen at this age and we like to make it as fun as possible so colourful sprinkles are definitely the way to go in our house and you certainly can't be precious about what the end result looks like when there's a child in charge.Last week Miss Frugal made some chocolate cupcakes on her own while I sat and played on my laptop watched her and they turned out looking very different to how I would have made them (gold … [Read more...]

#SummerofFrugalFun – Encouraging reading and writing through the School Holidays….
Is it mean that I plan to make sure that we spend time on reading and writing this Summer? We're concentrating on reading because although both children are doing really well at reading, I feel like they usually only read when they have to and they rarely read just for fun which is I would love them to do.My idea to help with this is to have a reading chart each which we've just made together:We have some stickers to stick in each square each time we read for 20 minutes and when all the squares are filled, we'll have a nice day out as a reading reward. Don't tell them but we've got … [Read more...]
