This time next week I shall be in a tent, camping for the first time ever.I think I'm looking forward to it but I'm a bit worried about the cold, possibly wet part and a lot worried about the lack of internet and running water part. We had a trial run in the back garden last week but I had to come inside because I couldn't get a reception on my phone and The Voice was on ;-)This was our practice tent but we're going with some lovely friends who have loaned us their tent and even promised that they would help put it up for us.For those fellow camping virgins out there, I wanted … [Read more...]

How we make room in our budget for fun….
As I've said before, my main reason for being frugal is so that I can afford to work part time and spend more time with the kids. But (there's always a but).... It's also really important to me that, as a family, we have lots of fun together and even though I know there are plenty of things we can do together that don't cost a penny, there are also lots of things we like to do together that do cost money. We allow a set amount of money each month in our budget for fun things, which could include anything from going to the pictures or bowling (doesn't happen often as it costs so much … [Read more...]

Half Term at the National Railway Museum in York….
If you're looking for a day out this half term, I can strongly recommend the National Railway Museum in York. We went on Sunday and had a fantastic day.The theme for this week is Big Fun with Little Trains and there's loads going on. We had a go on the indoor pedal trains, the crafts table, the minature railway, the simulator ride and had a ride on the steam engine. We also took the road train into York city centre and spent at least 40 minutes trying to build a Meccano aeroplane that did not turn out like we wanted it to, no matter how much the lovely man tried to help us … [Read more...]
