For years I've heard crafters refer to the wonder substance that is mod podge but I never really got what it was other than some sort of amazing substance that sounded expensive and way about my crafting ability. But then a couple of months ago as the leaves were turning from green to beautiful reds and oranges I googled 'how to stick a leaf to a glass jar' with the vague idea of turning a jam jar into a pretty candle holder decorated with the leaves we'd collected.Mod podge was the solution apparently but I really didn't want to buy something that would only be used once if I could … [Read more...]
Why you should join English Heritage….
A year ago we went along to a local priory for a quick look around and ended up signing up for an English Heritage annual family membership. The decision to join English Heritage was definitely a spur of the moment decision but it's turned out to be a good one as we've had so much fun with it and as far as value for money is concerned, the membership ended up paying for itself within about three weeks if I remember rightly! Our favourite property by far is Whitby Abbey and we've visited there about five times over the course of the year using our membership. We even went on Halloween … [Read more...]
Awesome conker crafts….
I might have mentioned on Facebook that we love getting out and collecting conkers at this time of year and that all we do with them is put them in a bowl so we can look at them and hope they really do keep spiders away. The very lovely Maggy from Red Ted Art was slightly horrified when she heard this as she pointed out there are so many conker crafts you can do with a plain old conker. Unconvinced,I asked her to give me some ideas and look at what she did - she wrote a whole list of conker crafts for me and has very kindly said I can share them with you all.I'll hand you over to … [Read more...]
Days Out: An afternoon at Brighton Sealife Centre…
When I asked Miss Frugal what she wanted to do when we had a week away at Butlins in Bognor Regis recently, she had just two requests - she wanted to visit the Brighton Sealife Centre and also see if we could find where Zoella lives in Brighton so we could drive past her house. They're the only things she asked to do the whole week so we headed off to Brighton one day in the middle of our week to see what we could do. We thought the Sealife centre would be the easiest thing to start with but we really struggled with parking as the Sealife centre itself doesn't have parking nearby that we … [Read more...]
Fun Food For Kids – Rainbow fritters….
With less than a week left of the Summer Holidays we're trying to squeeze as much fun out of the time we have left before the kids are back at school and I'm back at work.Yesterday was an amazing day which was filled with fun from the moment the kids woke up to homemade waffles for breakfast to the amazing rainbow fritters they made us all for tea with a trip to the local beach and paddling pool in between the two lovely meals. The fritters were mixed by Master Frugal and cooked by his big sister which meant that all I had I had to do was sit at the dining room table and enjoy their … [Read more...]

This week we've had three, yes three, back garden campouts. The first two were in a small tent that we bought from the car boot sale for the bargain price of £2 and the second was in our new brand new family tent that we're planning on using for a family camping weekend at the end of the month. After three nights in a row of having kids camping in our back garden, I like to think I'm a bit of an expert on this whole camping thing (;-)) so I thought I'd share my top tips for having a successful back garden camp out...
