We've now been home from our amazing trip to New York for a few days now and I definitely have post-holiday blues right now so I thought today would be a good day to share our second day with you If you've had a chance to read my last post, you'll know was a holiday we booked pretty last minute so didn't get the chance to save as much spending money as we would have liked. Day two of our trip was the busiest by far as we did two days worth of things in just the one day. We decided to head to Dumbo in Brooklyn for our second day and rather than get an … [Read more...]
Five Days in New York on a budget – Day 1….
If you follow me over on Instagram then you'll know that right now, I'm in New York with the kids.I've mentioned a couple of times that I'm a bit of a strict budget and so many of you have messaged me to ask me what we're getting up to if I don't have much money to spend so I thought I'd share our days with you.Before I do though, for those of you who don't know, we booked this trip last minute after a few life dramas last year, we paid for it using money we'd saved for a boiler in our Emergency Fund (I know, not the cleverest thing to do) and we didn't really have much time to … [Read more...]
My Festival of Thrift Thrifty Haul 2018….
It's that time of year again!The Festival of Thrift is an annual festival held in the North East to celebrate sustainable living and for the last five years that I've been going, it's absolutely been my favourite day of the year.I love everything about it although it's really hard to describe it to people who've never been and I can never quite put into words what it is that I love about this event. The brochure says that it's 'a big weekend of sustainable arts, music, fashion, food, entertainment, shopping, demos, workshops & more' which pretty much sums it up to be … [Read more...]
My secret to packing my carry-on bag for flights….
If all goes well, as you read this I will have just taken off on our family Summer holiday so I thought I'd do a kind of 'what's in my hand luggage' kind of a post today.First up, my bag is genuinely my husband's worst nightmare as it doesn't have a secure fastening and he's convinced someone is going to help themselves to everything that's in there which is why I'm not allowed custody of the tickets, passport or money. I'm only allowed my Macbook as it's got things on top of it so it's almost impossible to steal that without a good rummage around in there. Also, it's hidden at the … [Read more...]
Why you should always check Trip Advisor before a trip (and why you should take some reviews with a pinch of salt)….
Today, I'm going to tell you why you should always check Trip Advisor before a trip but also, why you should take some reviews with a pinch of salt.Have I ever told you that I used to work as a travel agent? I worked in a small independent travel agency for about five years after leaving school and I absolutely loved it and not only because I got at least two holidays a year either free or massively reduced. ;-). No, the main reason I loved it was because I love to travel myself and I really enjoyed being able to help people find their perfect holiday knowing that they're going to have … [Read more...]
A Perfect Weekend…. {Part 1}
Last Thursday, I boarded a plane at Newcastle airport and set off on a bit of a journey - a journey that would not only take me to the other end of the country but one that I hoped would help me to begin the healing process after my Dad passed away last month.I'd originally planned a cheeky weekend away at the Flea Retreats Blogging Weekend which was a gift from Mr Frugal at Christmas but after my Dad died, I was very tempted to cancel the weekend entirely. In the end, after some convincing from my lovely little family, I went the other way completely and booked an extra night away at the … [Read more...]
