The title of this post really should read - Camping for beginners - our experience and a free camping checking list so you remember everything we forgot.... Apparently that's too long for Google though so you got the shortened version instead. ;-)We're not experienced campers and weren't particularly well prepared for our camping trip a few weeks ago so after I came back, I decided to write a list of everything we took that was worth taking (we took a lot). everything we should have taken that we needed (also a lot of things) so that our next camping trip is a little easier.I know … [Read more...]
Days Out: Ocean Beach Pleasure Park….
Every year since the kids were old enough to go on fairground rides we've kicked off the Summer Holidays with a trip to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields and this year was no exception.I'm trying to find the right words to describe Ocean Beach to you and I'm honestly struggling because it's a bit of a cross between a theme park and a travelling funfair. It has all the traditional fairground rides and games you'd expect to see at a funfair and it certainly has the loud atmosphere with each ride blaring out it's own theme tune. Where it differs from your normal funfair (apart from … [Read more...]
Days Out: Tynemouth Priory and Castle….
One of the places we've been wanting to visit since we got our English Heritage membership last year is Tynemouth Priory which is billed on the website as being a perfect place for a fun family day out. It was only last month that we finally got around to going though and I'm so pleased we did as it's a beautiful place and we'll definitely be going back for another visit over the Summer.Tynemouth Priory and Castle has a really interesting history and we (by we, I mean Master and Mr Frugal) enjoyed learning about it - it was originally an Anglo-Saxon settlement but over the years it's been … [Read more...]
Create your own personalised family travel map….
Miss Frugal has definitely caught the travel bug after our little break away to Cyprus recently! She seems to have developed a real love of travelling and visiting new places, something I want to encourage in both of my children because it's so important for them to learn about the world around us.She's started her own little travel journal to record the places that we've already been and she's been asking me for one of those personalised family travel map you can get where you scratch off the places you've been (like these). Rather than buy one of those for her, I bought a small … [Read more...]
Days Out: Middleham Castle and Forbidden Corner….
Last weekend we were looking for a bit of a special day out to celebrate the end of SATs for Master Frugal and the end of a hard exam week for Miss Frugal and after much debate we decided to visit Middleham Castle and Forbidden Corner. Middleham Castle Middleham Castle is somewhere I've wanted to visit for years now as I've read about it's history as a setting in a number of different books. It was the childhood home of King Richard III (also known as the Kingmaker) and is steeped in history and tragedy. It's probably one of my favourite places that we've been since we joined English … [Read more...]
Review: Vrissaki Beach Hotel, Protaras….
First of all, I just want to put it out there that I paid for our holiday to the Vrissaki Beach Hotel and until I got home and thought about what a great time we'd had, I had no intention of reviewing our stay or the hotel itself so this might seem like a bit of an odd review as I probably don't have photos to match everything that I'm going to say! ;-)(Can you tell I'm not a travel blogger?)We booked our holiday to the Vrissaki Beach Hotel in Protaras through First Choice holidays and paid £546 in total for the two of us for four nights. I didn't specifically want to go to Cyprus … [Read more...]
