We love travelling on the train when we go for days out. I find it a much more relaxing way to travel and we all enjoy the journey much more – especially me as I often put my headphones in and relax, leaving Mr Frugal in charge of the in-train entertainment.
It does work out good value for money most of the time as you don’t have to pay for petrol or parking but it’s even better value if you have a Railcard. We have a Family and Friends Railcard which has saved us a fortune over the last couple of years and it easily paid for itself when we booked our first journey using it.
You can name two adults on the card and you need at least one of those named adults and one child to be travelling in order to get a discount.
A one year Family and Friends Railcard will usually cost £28.00 but one of my friends at work sent me a link to a special online offer that gets you one for just £20.00 which means you’re saving almost a third. You need to go to this link and sign up for the Railcard, remembering to enter SAVING8 at the checkout to get your discount.
The offer says it’s on until March 3rd 2013 so you’ve got plenty of time 😉
