A few years ago, for some unknown reason, Mr Frugal bought me a quesadilla maker for Christmas. I can only assume it’s because he wasn’t happy with the standard of my quesadillas although he swears that he bought it because he thought I’d appreciate the quirkiness of the little Mexican hat covered gadget.
It makes life easier when I make quesadillas (about once a month) but aside from that it just gathers dust in the back of the cupboard. So when I was decluttering the kitchen and trying to get rid of any gadgets that are just taking up space (slushie maker anyone?) the poor little quesadilla maker was first on my list to go the journey to the charity shop.
I decided to say our goodbyes to it by making one last batch of quesadillas with it but (a) I didn’t have any cheese in and (b) I already had today’s tea in the slow cooker. So I did what anyone would have done, I decided to make a sweet version….
Chocolate Banoffee Quesadillas
A bit of an odd combination for a quesadilla but it definitely worked!
I simply spread some Nutella on a plain wrap, sliced some banana onto it and drizzled some toffee sauce on it before popping it in the quesadilla maker and topping it with another wrap. I cooked it until the wrap was starting to turn a golden brown and got it out to serve.
Normally I leave a quesadilla for a few minutes before cutting it with a pizza slicer as the cheese hardens a little when you do this but chocolate banoffee quesadillas are very squidgy and gooey so I used a fish slice to slide them over to a plate and then a pair of scissors to cut it up into triangles.
They were delicious and I *may* have decided to hang on to the quesadilla maker for a little bit longer.
