Last week we managed to completely clear out our cup cupboard which left enough space to move the candyfloss maker into the cupboard. The knock on effect of this is that I was left with space where the candy floss maker had previously been stashed in our bureau which means that I can now open the bureau door without everything falling out!
This week, I decided to look at the kids DVDs (not Mr Frugal’s as that’s a whole other task that he can do himself) and see what I can get rid of from their collection which seems to have accumulated to a ridiculous amount over the years. We did have a book case on the upstairs landing that was filled with their DVDs but I have a new pretty cabinet in it’s place now so the DVDs either had to go or be moved somewhere else.
I started out being quite selective with the DVDs and keeping all the ones that I thought would be watched again in future but then I had a quick check of the first three on my keep pile and they were all available to watch on Netflix so I decided to get rid of everything in the keep pile too!
I’ve used Music Magpie in the past to get rid of things but I really just wanted them gone today because I knew if I put them in the garage, they’d still be there in six months time. I’m pretty sure we’d have got a better price from Music Magpie but as the exercise was more about de-cluttering than money making, we packed them all up into two bags and dropped them off at our local Cash Converters where we were offered the grand total of £15 for the lot.
It was more than I was expecting to be honest as I doubt there’s much demand for films like Beverly Hills Chihauhua 2 or Air Buddies. 😉 The main thing was that we cleared some space and got rid of a stack of DVDs that have barely been touched since we got Netflix.
And now that we have Amazon Video as part of our Amazon Prime subscription, I can’t imagine that any of us will even miss the DVDs that have gone this morning. If you fancy signing up for a free trial of Amazon Video then you get 30 days free which is what we started with – we just used it that much that we ended up signing up for the year….
Just so you know, that’s my affiliate link which means if you do sign up to the free trial then I get payment but I haven’t been asked by Amazon to post this, it’s just that it’s something we enjoy so I thought you might too!
And as an added bonus, the bookshelf that the DVDs were all sat on has just sold on our local Facebook selling site for £10 so this week’s de-cluttering has netted me an extra £25 in my pocket!
** Every week, on a Sunday morning, I’m going to share one of area of my house that I’ve cleared that week and tell you how I did it. If you have a similar area then you can spend a few minutes that week clearing out that and eventually you’ll be clutter free. **
