Conker Chaos….

We’ve had such a busy time lately that we decided last weekend was going to be a do nothing weekend and for the most part, we succeeded in doing absolutely nothing that didn’t involve pyjamas and blankets 😉

But by Sunday night we needed to get out and do something so we put our wellies and coats on since it was looking a bit grey outside and headed to the park for a conker hunt.  The park where all the good conkers can be found is about 15 minutes drive away and I’m not exaggerating when I say that by the time we go there the rain was bouncing and the sky was so dark you’d think the end of the world was about to happen. But we were dressed for a bit of rain so we got out of the car anyway, at which time the rain started to come down even harder!  Being the hardened outdoorsy people we are (not) we decided to keep going.

Surprisingly, going conker hunting in the middle of a torrential downpour was not the biggest mistake we made – going conker hunting in the middle of a torrential downpour late on a Sunday afternoon was!

Judging by the carpet of empty conker shells on the floor it looked at one point like we were going to be going home empty handed as everyone else had got there before us!  But luckily (depending on how you look at it) the gale force winds kicked in at that point and all the wind rustling the trees made the conkers start falling off one particular tree.  They were falling about one every twenty seconds so after a couple of minutes stood in the middle of the park in a storm we had more than enough thank goodness.

And was it worth it?

Apart from the fact that it got us our of the house and we laughed about it the whole way home, the best thing about it was the hot chocolate and marshmallows when we had when we got home!  The conkers are still sat in the carrier bag in the car I think!

You can’t really see the cool wellies that the kids are wearing for our conker expedition but they were sent to us by the lovely people at Barratts.  We got a pair of wellies each and some lovely boots that Miss Frugal is planning to wear to school in the Winter – they’re all great quality, very well priced and according to the little people wearing them, they’re also comfortable and dry.
