The year before last we had a lovely weekend away in Blackpool with the kids and one of the things we planned to do was visit The Blackpool Tower Dungeon. We headed there after a trip to the top of the tower, bought our tickets and were shown where to wait for the experience to begin.
That’s where our problems started! 😉 Miss Frugal was already emotional from her trip to the top of the tower (it was higher than she expected, therefore scarier than she thought) and it and she suddenly decided that actually, she didn’t want to go in. The staff were so lovely to her and tried their best to explain that it would all be OK but she put her foot down so I said we’d leave and let Master Frugal and his Dad carry on.
I can’t tell you how nice the staff were to her and even as they were refunding our money (I wasn’t even expecting them as it was our choice to leave) they were still talking to her about it to the point where she did actually ask to go back in. I said no as I didn’t want to hold everyone up any longer though and we went for a wander while the boys had, in Master Frugal’s own words ‘an amazing awesome time’! High praise indeed.
Anyway, fast forward to today and we were invited to go and visit the Blackpool Tower Dungeon this weekend so we could experience their Halloween Family Experience and tell you all about it. I’m gutted that we couldn’t go but I thought I’d tell you about it anyway because (a) it sounds amazing, (b) Master Frugal LOVED it and (c) the staff we spoke to were all super lovely.
So here we go….
The family experience is suitable for children aged 8 and over and is complete with over 800 pumpkins, a host of brilliant characters, electrifying special effects and stories. You get to join the cast horribly hilarious characters as you embark on a journey of mischief and mayhem. You’ll be able to meet the Witch Finder General and the mysterious witches before being accused of a terrible ‘witchy’ crime. There’s even a drop thrill ride if you’re brave enough!
That sounds fab and I know my two would have a blast but if you’re feeling braver, they do have an adults only experience too – ‘Where’s Jack’!
The website says it’s a spine chilling After Dark Special for adults only which is bound to give even the bravest visitors a fright.
You’ll tag along with Inspector Abberline as he pursues the gruesome killer after fresh victims are found washed up on the shores of Blackpool. But watch your back… as The Ripper might not be far behind you. Your journey will take you to the mortuary where you’ll learn all about the grisly details of the Murders, before you’ll be running for your life through the terrifying mirror maze as The Ripper attempts to claim his next victim. You can finish your journey in The Hangman’s Tavern, where you can enjoy a Bloody Mary to help calm your nerves.
If you think you can brave the witches or are bold enough to find Jack, tickets for Home of Halloween and ‘Where’s Jack’ After Dark Special are available now online at http://www.thedungeons.com/blackpool/en/
