What a day! My peaceful lazy morning was rudely interrupted by Mr Frugal noticing that the freezer decided that today was the day it needed to defrost itself. I personally think it was a little bit jealous of all the attention it’s Smeg counterpart has been getting latelyand thought it would get a bit of attention of it’s own.
It must have had it’s little meltdown overnight because everything in there was completely defrosted so I have now had to spend the rest of the day cooking up a storm trying to use everything that I could.
I made chicken and ham pie and a small corned beef and potato one, both look a bit boring but actually tasted really nice….
Next I thought I’d try my hand at making an apple pie. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really use a recipe for this as I thought it would be quite straightforward – a bit of chopped apple, some sugar and a bit of cinammon for extra ooomph.
Note to self: It’s always advisable to stick to a recipe when you’ve never made something before.
Mr Frugal took one look at the finished pie and asked why there was chicken in it and Miss Frugal declared after one mouthful that if she had to mark it out of 300 she would give me a 2.
I guess I can kind of see the resemblence to chicken, but don’t tell him, he feels bad at the moment for being mean to my pie.
I’ve also made about 76 fish pies using some salmon, white fish and a packet of Aunt Bessies mashed potato (oh no – the shame!). I was a bit suprised how much fish I actually had in there! This one looks a bit anemic as it’s Miss Frugals and she doesn’t like grated cheese sprinkling on top.
Tea tonight consisted of salmon fishfingers, chicken goujons, a pepperoni pizza with some garlic bread and curly fries. It’s OK though, for those of you who read my post about Miss Frugal wanting to eat more healthily, you’ll be pleased to know there was corn on the cob and brocolli as well!
So there you have it, relaxing Sunday a la Frugal Family style!
Roll on next weekend that’s all I can say….
