With Fathers Day fast approaching, today seemed like a good idea to share my homemade DIY beard oil with you. And before you roll your eyes at another post dedicated to beards and moustaches in the space of a few weeks, I will completely forgive you if you click away at this point if (a) you don’t have a man with a beard in your life and/or (b) last month’s Moustache and beard balm was enough for you. Why not go investigate my relaxing coconut oil bath melts and make yourself a treat instead.
If you are still here, this DIY beard oil not only moisturises the beard and keeps it looking healthy, it also hydrates the skin underneath the beard which can easily get dry (and a little flaky). It can help to soften the beard hairs a little bit too which makes the beard easier to manage and keeps it looking its best.
How to make DIY Beard Oil
You can scale this up if your bottle is bigger or use a little less if you get the 30ml bottle – there are some super cheap ones on Amazon that would do the trick if you’re OK to wait for a couple of weeks to be delivered. If you need something sooner then there are lots on there that are next day delivery too although they’re a little more. I bet you could get similar from Hobbycraft or similar too.
- 30ml jojoba oil
- 6 Drops of Cedarwood Essential Oil (This promotes healthy skin and hair growth)
- 6 Drops of Frankincense Essential Oil (This will help tones the skin and will be a great help keeping skin healthy in general)
- 4 Drops of Tea Tree Oil (This soothes irritated and itchy skin)
- 2 Drops of Peppermint Essential Oil (This cools and has a great scent)
- Add the Jojoba oil into your chosen bottle.
- Next, just add the essential oils, put the lid on and give it a good shake.
How to use DIY Beard Oil
The idea of using beard oil is that you use it to lightly coat the beard in oil from the root to the tip without using too much because too much will just make it look greasy. Here’s a quick guide to show to your man so he knows how much beard oil should be used and how to use it to get the best results:
Stubble: 1-2 drops
1-2 inches long beards: 2-4 drops
3-6 inches long beards: 4-6 drops
Beards longer than 6 inches: 7+ drops
The best time to apply the beard oil is after a shower when your beard is not soaking wet but is just slightly damp as this is the best time for the hair follicles to absorb the oil.
With the required amount of beard oil in the palm of your hands, rub the beard oil through the beard and try to evenly distribute it from the roots right down to the end of the beard. At the same time, you can gently massage the skin beneath your beard to work a little of the oil into it and hydrate it.
For longer beards it would be quicker and easier I would imagine to use your beard comb and work ith through that way.
I have one more Fathers Day gift idea coming up next week (you can have a sneak peek here) which is a hassle-free but very lovely personalised gift that you might like.
(PS) As always, be careful spraying when using Essential Oils. This post shares a bit of information about what you should know before using essential oils.
