I realised the other day that I’ve bought a couple of things recently that I may not have even known existed if it hadn’t been for Facebook and it’s advertising algorithms that somehow know what I want before I even know myself.
I thought it might be interesting to show you what I’ve bought recently and looking back over them as I’m writing this, I’m actually pretty pleased with most of my Facebook purchases. Note that I said most, not all! 🤣😂🤣
About ten pairs of tights (and two more pairs that I just bought today) from Snag Tights
This discovery has literally changed my life! Snag Tights kept popping up in my feed for about a month but every time I scrolled right past as I have never met a pair of tights that didn’t roll down from the waistband or make me look like Nora Batty around the ankles so I had no faith that these would be any different despite their claims.
They go from a size 4 up to about a size 36 I think and the quality is fantastic with a fit that makes them look and feel great when they’re on! The waistband is so high and well fitted that I never worry about the top rolling down and the short length that I buy my size in means that they never bunch around the ankles which I love.
I have a stack of the black and skin-toned ones which are perfect for me as I can now wear dresses to work without getting my legs out and I genuinely love them. In fact, I just headed to the site to get the link and ended up buying some footless tights in black which I can’t wait to get.
Honestly, I love them and I think I must have told everyone I know where to buy the best tights ever.
A ring from Boho Peak
I genuinely loved this ring from the moment I saw it and for the price (£15.99), I was happy to take a chance on it!
It arrived in about a week and looked exactly like it did in the photo I’d seen on Facebook and looked so lovely on and I always got compliments when I wore it. Notice how I’m talking in the past tense here. 😊 That’s because it stayed lovely and shiny for a good two months but then started to turn my finger green which made me so sad! I do have quite sensitive skin so this probably wouldn’t happen to everyone and I did wear it every day during a time when I was using hand sanitiser frequently so potentially that could be why?
Either way, it still looks nice when I wear it but I rarely do as my fingers go green if I wear it for more than a couple of hours. I love it that much though that I might actually buy another one and just keep it to wear every now and again.
If you plan on treating yourself to one then take your time before adding it to your basket as you do get a pop up with some sort of wheel of fortune that gives you some extra money off – I’m sure I got 15% off the price.
PS. I won’t show you a pic of my chubby fingers but there are loads of reviews with people wearing it on the page if you want to have a look.
A food flask from Chillys
At that start of Lockdown, my work started to do free food and drink in the canteen which has been amazing. For each meal, in addition to a big choice of sandwiches, there are also three hot choices to just go in and grab and go. Breakfast could be a choice of bacon or sausage buns, omelettes, warm pastries or even pancakes with syrup and to give you an idea of lunches, on Friday I could have had chilli and rice, a chicken tikka wrap or a Quorn chicken pizza. In between we have cakes, ice creams, yoghurts and all kinds of crisps and chocolates available.
Amazing, hey? But it was ridiculously hard to stick to any kind of healthy eating plan with that much food available and me doing 10 hour days at work and to be fair, there was that much going on in the world that I didn’t even try. I figured it was best to go easy on myself and I’d just jump back on the wagon when I was ready.
Fast forward five months and it’s still all completely free but I need to take control so I’m back at Slimming World and determined to get to where I want to be which leads me to my next Facebook ads purchase – a food flask from Chillys.
I’ve had too many experiences of food containers that have leaked in my bag, not kept the food hot and even the odd one that started to smell a bit off after a couple of uses so much like my opinion of tights, I was doubtful this flask really was as leakproof as they claimed. Because of that, the first few times I saw the ad, I just scrolled on by and ignored it but it just kept coming back.
Eventually, the pretty pink of this flask combined with the promise that it’s going to revolutionise my work lunches at a time when I need all the help I can get convinced me to give it a go.
Two days after I parted with my £20 (I know, I know) it arrived and so far, it’s doing everything it should be doing and looking pretty good while it does it!
A Meal Prep Kit from Hello Fresh
Oh dear, for someone who once turned down paying work with Hello Fresh because it wasn’t very frugal, I’m currently feeling all the frugal shame for this one but after seeing Hello Fresh just about everywhere over the last few months, I decided to give it a go.
If you don’t know, Hello Fresh is a food delivery service who deliver meal kits to your door. You basically choose how many meals you want them to deliver each week and choose from a selection of meals and they deliver what you need to make each meal with.
Feel free to judge me but before you do, let me tell you why I went for it:
- Facebook very kindly offered me a discount code so I got £20 off my first box. 🤣
- I am REALLY struggling with meal prep right now as I’m not getting home from work until between 6 pm and 7 pm so cooking anything that involves weighing or measuring just isn’t happening. These boxes come with everything you need for each meal – nothing more and nothing less which makes it so much easier.
- I’m stuck in a meal rut and have gone back to my old boring meals which is no fun for anyone. I thought this might help with some inspiration and will allow me to try all sorts of new meals without having to go out and buy loads of ingredients that I might only use once.
- My two are great at helping out at mealtimes but they have their go-to recipes and anything else needs me to be there to help them but I think they might be able to help me more with these.
These are the meals we have for this week and I’m looking forward to seeing how it works for us.
Clothes from all over
Facebook seems to know what kind of clothes I like and regularly shows me clothes that I like but this t-shirt was more from seeing someone else wearing it than an actual ad so I’m not sure if this counts. I love Pickle London for t-shirts and jumpers so when I saw someone wearing this one, I decided to treat myself so this is now sitting in my wardrobe along with a couple of others that I’ve bought from there before.
I love that Facebook shows me small companies who do vintage style dresses too although I’ve never bought one yet – I do always click through and look though and one day, I’ll treat myself if I have an occasion.
And that just about does it for now. 👍
