Did you see my last ‘Facebook MADE me buy it‘ post?
Basically, I realised a little while ago that I’m like an advertisers dream right now as I’ve bought things recently that I may not have even known existed if it hadn’t been for Facebook and its advertising algorithms that somehow know what I want before I even know myself.
(To be clear: none of these items are sponsored or gifted, they’re all things that have genuinely appeared in my Newsfeed – usually numerous times before I give in!)
Before I start telling you what I have bought, let me tell you what I haven’t bought that I really, really want. 😂
This dressing gown appears in my Facebook feed at least three times a week and I laugh every single time as I can just imagine myself sitting on a conference call at home wearing this. I’m 99% certain it wouldn’t look like this when it came as it’s on Wish but I can dream, hey?
My Kitchen Makeover
I’ve told you about my kitchen makeover a couple of times over the last couple of weeks but basically, it came about as I saw the firm who did it posting some before and after pictures on Facebook. It wasn’t an impulse purchase as I’ve been thinking about how to sort my kitchen out and this inspired me and accelerated my plans!
An Exercise Bike
I did a Google search for a Peleton bike about six weeks ago as I’ve been wanting an exercise bike for ages now and although I quickly clicked on the x when I discovered the price of them, I’ve been getting all kinds of exercise bike ads in my Facebook feed since then.
We did have an exercise bike a couple of years ago which we kept in the garage but it was always a faff as we don’t have a door from the house into the garage and our garage door doesn’t open easily from the inside so after getting stuck in there a couple of times, we abandoned the idea of a garage gym.
In amidst the constant barrage of Peleton and other expensive bike ads (Facebook – you really got my budget wrong on this one) was a folding bike that promised to be able to fold away easily and be stored in a super small space. I didn’t get that one as it was ridiculously expensive but I did do some research and find one that wasn’t as foldable or as lightweight but it was about 10% of the price so I decided to go for it and bought it for myself.
Cycling is a great way to exercise and I find it’s something I can do multiple times a day – if I’m watching a YouTube video then I’ll jump on and cycle my way through the video or at the end of my work day, I’ll shut my laptop and put my headphones in for 20 minutes just to clear my head.
On an average working day, I’ll do about 20km which I’m super pleased with for me although I know that’s not much in the grand scheme of things. I’m working up to doing more and am really enjoying it which is the main thing.
If you’re interested, this is the bike I bought (aff) – it was easy to build and is just what I needed although it’s not as lightweight and portable as I expected which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as I now appreciate the sturdiness of it. It’s more expensive than it was when I bought it but there is £20 off at the moment which gets it to almost what I paid.
Etsy Cleaning Bottles
OK, I’m not a Mrs Hinch fan particularly but I kept seeing those super pretty personalised spray bottles in my Facebook feed, mainly posted by my friends rather than ads.
I was making my usual homemade Febreze when I realised how scruffy my usual spray bottle was and I had bottle envy so I headed onto Etsy to have a look and two days later I was the proud owner of a Febreze and Zoflora spray bottles!
It’s impossible to take a good picture as the light shines on it from every angle but they’re so cute!
So, that’s what Facebook has made me buy over the last month – I’d like to say that there won’t be a part four but I suspect there will be as I’m literally Facebook’s ideal consumer!
