It’s been a good while since I’ve written a ‘Facebook made me buy it‘ post but I bought something a little while ago after repeatedly seeing it in my Facebook feed so I thought I’d bring these posts back and share what I thought of my purchase.
Before I start, I just want to be clear that I bought this with my own pennies and I’m sharing this as a good deed to you in case it’s showing in your social media feeds as often as it was showing in mine.
This is the post that kept popping up, alongside a video that showed how amazing Il Makiage foundation was (allegedly 😁)…
I watched the video and convinced myself that it might be better than my current foundation which is the YSL Touche Eclat – it’s not cheap but it’s the perfect colour for me and I’ve been wearing it for a good few years now.
I thought the coverage on the Il Makiage foundation was better than my YSL foundation and it was slightly cheaper with the discount that they had on so I went for it. I’ll be honest, the temptation of the free foundation brush (worth £38) was a definite incentive too as I’m a sucker for a freebie.
There’s an online ‘test’ you can do to select your perfect colour foundation which is basically looking at pictures and selecting the closest one to your skin as well as answering a couple of questions about your skin type so I went through that and was told what my ideal colour was.
I ordered a bottle for £30 (ish) and was super surprised that it arrived two days later and obviously I opened it up and had a go straight away.
The colour itself is a very good match, if I’m honest it’s not as good a match as the YSL foundation but it’s close.
I’m not very good at putting foundation on so I generally start with the brush and then give up and end up blending most of it in with my fingertips which is a must with the Il Makiage foundation as it’s slightly darker than my skin tone so it needs a good blend around the neck and hairline otherwise I run the risk of going out sporting a unflattering orange shade of oompa loompa.
I’m not a beauty blogger by any means so I don’t know exactly how to describe this foundation but it’s got great coverage and is really easy to put on leaving me looking much more put together than when I don’t wear foundation but I just don’t think it’s better than my old faithful YSL foundation.
Also, there’s absolutely no way that the recommended two pumps are enough for me, in fact, I’m probably closer to five pumps if I want to cover my whole face.
Do I think it’s worth the full price of £39?
I like it but no, I don’t think it’s worth the £39 RRP and actually, I don’t think it’s worth the offer price that I paid for it.
I’m pretty sure that the majority of the cost of the foundation is due to the huge advertising budget that they must have at Il Makiage judging by the number of posts they’re paying to show up in my social media feeds every ten minutes.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like it and it does what it needs to do but I just don’t think it’s worth the price tag.
(Of course I know that Facebook didn’t make me buy this – but I have realised a little while ago that I’m like an advertisers dream right now as I’ve bought things in the past that I may not have even known existed if it hadn’t been for Facebook and its advertising algorithms that somehow know what I want before I even know myself. To be clear: none of the items in these posts are sponsored or gifted, they’re all things that have genuinely appeared in my Newsfeed – usually numerous times before I give in!)
