This week is a bit of a funny week as we had friends round on Sunday night for fireworks, then we were away in London until last night. We have a birthday party to go to on Friday and we’re out on Saturday as well!
I have no idea what I’m doing from one day to the next and even though I wrote this post on Sunday afternoon, I forgot to publish it which is why I’m sharing my meal plan with you half way through the week!
Here you go….
Sunday – Fireworks party night so we’re having chilli and cupcakes – great combination!
Monday – We’re away but the kids will be at home (not alone) so I’ve left fries and fish fingers with peas for their tea.
Tuesday – We’re still away so I’ve left fries and chicken dippers with beans for the kids.
Wednesday – We’ll be back for tea tonight so we’ll be sitting down together for a family meal for the first time all week. I’m going to make macaroni cheese with brocolli and gammon in it and serve it with some garlic bread.
Thursday – Homemade fishcakes in buns with salad and homemade chunky chips.
Friday – Something quick and easy I think like spaghetti carbonara.
Saturday – Quick and easy to make stir fry.
Our meals this week have been a little inspired by the hot sauces that we were sent by Heinz. They’re all chill based but they have varying degrees of heat.
I can tell you that it’s not advisable to try the Yellow Habanero one by pouring some on your hand and licking it. If you do there is a good chance that you will spontaneously combust! It is however a great ingredient to add to a stir fry.
The smoky chipotle and garlic sauce is brilliant for adding to a chilli and I got lots of compliments for the chilli I made for our bonfire party. All I did was use my usual slow cooker chilli recipe but added a good glug of this sauce and it actually did make a difference to the flavour. I’ll definitely use this again next time but not only for chilli – I think it would be great in home made burgers, drizzled on top of home made pizzas and also to add a kick to any tomato based dishes.
We used the super hot Yellow Habanero sauce to make a stir fry with pork stir fry strips, beansprouts, carrot, spring onions, garlic, ginger, chilli and noodles. I’ve made this twice and both times it was gorgeous although the second time I *may* have accidentally put too much sauce into the stir fry which resulted in an unhappy Miss Frugal!
There’s lots more hot sauce ideas here on the hot sauces Facebook page.

Thanks to Heinz for sending us the sauces to try and the ingredients to cook with.
