I didn’t do too well at sticking to last weeks meal plan I’m afraid…. I *may* have even substituted one night for a takeaway and another for egg, chips and beans 😉
I’ve had a stern word with myself and am ready to go again so here’s what we’ll be eating this week:
Monday – Fray Bentos pies with chips and peas. Â I love Fray Bentos pies so I stocked up when I found them on offer last week.
Tuesday – Chicken and egg fried rice for the adults and fish fingers, mash and beans for the kids.
Wednesday – Macaroni Cheese
Thursday – Mussels with crusty bread and french fries. Â Pasta for Master Frugal as he hates mussels.
Friday – Home made pizza.
Schwartz Slow Cooker Sausage and Bean Casserole
When Schwartz asked me to review their new slow cooker range I said yes because although I love my slow cooker, I do sometimes think that my meals are limited to things involving mince or casserole meat.  I tried the Chicken in Red Wine variety first but I didn’t really enjoy that – I’m going to put that down to me not being overly keen on red wine though 😉
We really enjoyed this one though so and I did say on my last weeks menu plan that I’d be sharing it with you so here you go. Â It’s quick to prepare and has a lovely flavour to it so we’ll definitely be having it again (at the request of Mr Frugal). Â When I was doing my shopping last week, I noticed that they had a chicken curry version as well so I might try that as curries are definitely not my strong point….
- 450g (1lb) pork sausages
- 1 chopped onion
- 400g tin of cannelini beans 9 (I used baked beans instead)
- 400g tin of chopped tomatoes
- 75ml water
- 2tbsp tomato puree
Brown the sausages in a pan and drain of the excess oil
Place the browned sausages, onion and beans in the slow cooker pot
Blend the sachet contents with the chopped tomatoes, water and tomato purée, and add to the slow cooker pot. Stir through.
Cover and cook for 4 hours on HIGH or 8 hours on LOW.
Disclosure: Schwartz provided us with the product samples to try and a slow cooker to cook them in.
