I’ve said before a couple of times that I don’t necessarily agree with limiting screen time for children – it certainly doesn’t work for us as a family and even if it did, I’m more an advocate of giving them other options to encourage them away from electronics.
One thing I make sure we do together is play – we play cards, board games and even have family xbox tournaments together. No matter what the kids are doing or planning to do, if I suggest a family game night they will always say yes. And some of our happiest family moments have been sat around our dining room table playing together.
Here’s some of our favourite games at the moment….

I bet you weren’t expecting me to say Chess! I’m a fan of children learning chess as it’s really good for them in lots of ways – patience, strategy, concentration and forward thinking.

We LOVE the new version of Yahtzee – it’s easy to set up, easy to understand and is a lot of fun. I’m sure we bought it at Tesco for under a tenner which is great value for all the fun we’ve had!

We love Monopoly empire because it’s a quicker version of the old version that I loved when I was younger. It was always my favourite game but it’s too slow for the kids so this is our compromise.

You absolutely can’t beat Uno for a family game – we love it and have taken it all over with us. We’ve played it on hotel beds and in hotel bars all over the world (well all over the UK and in Spain anyway)

Anyone who follows me on Instagram will know just how much we’ve been playing Headbandz recently. We were sent iby House of Fraser and it’s fast becoming our favourite family game. It’s so much fun and again for around £10 we’re getting hours of fun out of it.
We were asked to choose some games from the House of Fraser website to play as a family which is where we got Headbandz from. We also got the new version of Trivial Pursuit where you bet on whether or not the other players are going to get their questions right or not and although we had a great time playing it with our friends, it’s definitely not a family game in my opinion as the questions are way too hard for children. It’s still a lot of fun though and we’ll definitely be playing it with friends.
