I have a sore throat which I have no doubt will turn into a full blown cold which means that I’m likely to spend the few days off that I have with the kids during half term in one of two ways. Either snuggled up on the sofa with them moaning that they want to be out doing things, or actually out doing things with me moaning that I want to be at home snuggled up on the sofa.
So, I’m currently sat here with my favourite cold remedy…..
…..Hot lemon, honey and ginger.
What do you think – Is this going to help or should I really just go to the shop and buy some of the strongest flu relief tablets I can get which is what I used to do. Until this time last year, when I had a chest infection that lasted almost two months with more than a month off work sick. I took so many antibiotics and tablets and anything else going and they just didn’t seem to help.
I ended up spending months afterwards feeling absolutely wiped out and catching everything that was going around and even though the way I felt afterwards probably had nothing to do with all of the medication I took, I just feel like they didn’t help me so this year, I’m going au naturale (other than the odd paracetamol when I get desperate ;-)).
So help me out, share with me your natural ways to beat the common cold without having to resort to taking tablets.
PS just realised you didn't want to take tablets but they're not rpescribed ones – they are herbal and known for relieving symptoms – defo going back to lurkdom now :] Helen
ha ha don't be a lurker helen
Hi delurking to say – have you tried Echinacea tablets [Tesco's are the cheapest] they work for us really well – 1st sign of a cold start taking them and it goes in a couple of days, hope you feel better soon – going back to lurking now, Helen
I've never heard of them before but I'll definitely check them out – thanks very much x x
The Jennings way is to add a dash of blackcurrent squash and a shot of port to the hot honey and lemon! Blackcurrent for the Vitamin C and port to help you sleep – that’s what we tell ourselves anyway
Hope you feel better soon x
Oooh now that sounds nice – Do you have to be poorly to drink it lol
