Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Before I start though, as always feel that I should say that being frugal to me is about getting the best value for our money – it’s not about doing without for us or about not having nice things. We all have different financial situations and we’re all frugal for different reasons. 😉
This week’s post is a bit different as I’m going to tell you five FREE things that I did in London last weekend.
The UK Money Bloggers Annual Conference
First up, the reason that I was in London was for the UK Money Bloggers annual conference which is always a fantastic day attended by so many amazing bloggers who are much more money-minded than me.
I’m not usually one for blogging get-togethers or events but this is the one thing I never miss because of how much I learn and how inspired I always feel when I leave. It’s completely free and run by Andy who writes Be Clever with Your Cash and for what I get out of it, it’s unbelievable that there’s no charge.
I know I’m gushing about how good it was but I’m actually writing this on the train on the way home and my head literally feels like it could explode with all of the things I want to do.
Anyway, the point of this post was that it’s free so I won’t go on too much about how good a day it was. Although…. I did win a cheeky award at the Awards ceremony which always takes place at the end of the day – and goes on until much later than I’m usually out and about. I won the Legendary Money Blogger Award which I can only liken to the kind of Lifetime Achievement Awards that they give out in bigger award ceremonies to people who’ve been about for as long as anyone can remember.
I was really touched by it and it definitely topped off what was already an amazing day!
Shoreditch Street Art
I met up with lovely Becky the day before the conference as we’d decided to make a weekend of it. We sat in our hotel room last Friday afternoon trying to figure out what we were actually near in London and soon realised that we were only a short walk from Shoreditch where there’s a lot of London’s famous street art.
We had a lovely afternoon just wandering up and down the streets admiring the works…
It was completely free and such a lovely afternoon with lovely company. And honestly, I think I have enough Instagram posts to last me a lifetime so I’m having to really restrain myself from posting them all at once! There’s so much we could have done that would have cost us but this was more fun than I can imagine having anywhere else.
Free Food Samples
There were lots of stands around the Shoreditch tube stands giving away free samples of things – some of which weren’t something I’d use so I left those for other people. The one that caught my eye was the Schwartz street food stand where they were giving away seasoning sachets so after a quick chat with the guy about what we liked to eat, he recommended Sriracha, Mexican and Jerk seasonings.
They come with money-off vouchers so I can get some more half price if I like them which I’m pretty sure I will. 😉
Free Travel Mug which I then used
Still down by Shoreditch tube station, we got another freebie from a little Vespa stall. This time it was a travel mug which is actually really good quality considering it was a freebie.
I popped it in my bag and when we got to the hotel, I used it to fill up with water from the water cooler rather than use one of their disposable cups. The water was amazing – it was iced lemon and mint water so I ended up using my freebie cup a few times over the weekend to top up.
Free games in the park
After our very long walk around the Shoreditch street are we headed back to the hotel via the scenic route as Google Maps decided to mess with us. We walked past Finsbury Park where there was some sort of mini festival going on. We decided to join in and found some free games to play…
We had a couple of games of beanbag whatever you call it – basically throwing beanbags into a hole and had a sit to do some people watching which is THE best free activity in London if you ask me.
