Vinted is pretty much my favourite app and I use it whenever I need something new in my wardrobe or when I want to make space for the something new in my wardrobe. I also use it for a few other things that might surprise you….
1) I use the Vinted app whenever I see something that I think is a real bargain in a charity shop or at a car boot sale. It’s a super quick way to check up on values of brand and specific items so I can see if it’s worth buying to resell myself on Vinted.
A couple of weeks ago, I found a red Valentino purse in a charity shop for £3 which I thought was worth something so I popped on to Vinted and typed ‘Red Valentino Purse’ and found the exact same purses on there for £20+. I knew that this was a genuine item so this was me doing a check on it’s value before I bought it and because it was definitely worth more than it was being sold for, I bought it.
I may or may not put it on Vinted to sell as I do actually quite like it but if I do, I’ll have a good idea of it’s value and I’ll have made a reasonable profit on it if I do sell.
2. I use Vinted to make space every time I buy something as I have a one in, one out policy with clothes, shoes and sometimes with bags. Bags take up so little space that I can sometimes overlook my own policy. 😁
I can list something on the app within two minutes and even if it’s just a couple of pounds that I make for it, it’s better to me than just stockpiling clothes that won’t be worn when storage is already tight here.
3. I use the Vinted app when I want to check the authenticity of an item quickly.
Not long ago I found a Kate Spade bag in a shop which looked original to me but I’d never seen the particular fabric or style so I wasn’t 100% sure.
A quick check on the Vinted app found me a bag in the same fabric as this one with lots of pictures of the inside so I could compare to the bag I’d found. It was definitely an original so I paid my £5 and took home a bargain Kate Spade bag. It’s not a fool proof method by any means but it’s a good start when I need to make a judgement quickly in a charity shop or at a boot sale stall.
4) I don’t buy second hand make-up or beauty products as a rule but I do occasionally search on Vinted when I know there’s something specific that I’m after. People often sell new and sealed products on there at a good price so I do have a good little search around every now and again.
I have some specific favourites that I can’t always get hold of easily – things like the Banana Republic ‘Peony and Peppercorn’ perfume. I always get a good deal on that on Vinted when I need it so I’ve pretty much stopped trying to find where stocks it outside of Vinted these days.
Just filter now ‘Brand New with Tags’ and you should only get new and usually sealed products. Just check that there’s a couple of pictures so you can be as sure as you can be that it’s original.
Also, just a side note as I don’t ever make a fortune out of my charity shop finds but I do make a few cheeky extra pounds which usually go straight in our holiday fund. I was a bit torn about making a profit this way when I first started way back when I started my charity shop bargain hunting so I made myself feel better with a monthly charity donation to my favourite charity.
