Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Look at this, another five frugal things post started with a bargain flowers photo. 😂
I always try to buy daffodils or tulips at this time of year but this little bunch was only £1.05 so they got to come home with me. There were about five stems in the bunch that were making it seem like it was way past its best which was probably why no one else had snapped them up but I just discarded them when I was arranging them and it still looks like quite a full vase.
I’m trying to learn more about arranging flowers to look good at the moment rather than just throwing them together in a vase but I didn’t have time to do much with these at all and I wanted to just get them in water as soon as possible. I did share a post about how to arrange daffodils in a vase last week though if you want to check that one out.
2) Just before Pancake Day, I saw some super pretty Salter spatulas in Tesco that I absolutely loved and really, really wanted to have in my life. I reluctantly put the one I liked back on the shelf though as £7 is a bit much to pay for something that does the same job as the one I already own – even though this one would look so much prettier doing the job. 😂
I suspected not many people would pay £7 for one and hoped that as soon as pancake day was over, they’d be reduced in price as so often happens in shops now.
And this week, when I was having my usual little check of the clearance section – there they were! Reduced from £7 to £1.25 which is a much more acceptable price, right? I bought this one and a similar one with lemons in the design although Miss Frugal was round within the hour to claim one for her own flat.
3) I don’t know if I’ve ever told you much about the Tesco Clubcard Plus scheme other than the post I wrote about it just as it was announced. I wasn’t convinced back then that it was a good thing as they were essentially asking you to shell out £7.99 a month and despite the benefits the Tesco Clubcard Plus gave you, I just wasn’t sold because of the fact it was a monthly subscription.
I could see the benefits though so I got over myself and decided to give it a go and see how much I saved by paying the £7.99 monthly fee and I think I’ve been paying it for just short of a year now as I’m a fan – so much so that I should probably rewrite that post, shouldn’t I?
The main selling point is that you get 10% off two ‘big shops’ every month up to the value of £200 per shop which is a big saving depending on how much you spend on your shopping. I did my weekly shop on Monday this week and actually spent just over £100 as I was buying some extras for Miss Frugal and her flat so I pulled up the voucher on my phone and saved myself £10 which paid for the monthly subscription and more. I still have another voucher to use this month on another shop so I’ll use that and probably save another £7 or £8 depending on what I spend.
I know I could be cleverer about it and shop fortnightly which would mean two bigger shops a month that I could use my vouchers on but I’m rarely that organised.
4) Look at this face…
This is the face of a dog who is currently working in partnership with the puppy next door to build a tunnel under our fences so they can play together. It’s the face of a dog who has just been told off for digging yet again and then casually strolling around the house leaving as many muddy paw prints as he possibly can.
Dog + rain + mud = dirty house that smell of wet dog.
So, this week, I’ve been making the homemade Febreze in bulk and I’ve also made a batch of my own homemade shake and vac. to try and keep on top of Monty’s muck spreading.
The Febreze is obviously to control the smell and the shake and vac is because I’ve learned that the best way to get rid of muddy paw prints is to let them dry and then give them a good hoover which generally gets all of the mud up and sprinkling a little before I hoover helps pull out any lingering smells of mud and wet dog when it pulls up the mud.
5) I’ve been promising in my monthly ‘pre-loved bargain’ posts that I was going to try and step out of my comfort zone and show you some of the bargains I’d bought while I was wearing them rather than just on a hanger on the back of my door so seeing as I was just about to add this to my next month’s post I thought I’d share it with you here too.
Ignore the mess – the mirror is in my spare room which is a dumping ground for Master Frugal at the moment but this was my work outfit on Monday this week. A long black skirt topped with my bargain jumper which cost me £2.50 from the charity shop near where I live. It’s the perfect length for tucking into skirts like this and I’ve been looking for one for a while so I was over the moon when I found this one.
(This month’s pre-loved post went live on Wednesday if you want to have a look)
