Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey!
1) Daffodils are one of my favourite two flowers and at this time of year, they’re in abundance everywhere you look where I live which makes me very happy! They’re also a frequent visitor to the yellow sticker section of the flower department in the supermarket too. Look at the giant bunch I found in Tesco last weekend for £1.25…
It’s actually 7 or 8 normal sized bunches of daffs bunched into one and they bloomed so beautifully after just one night in water. This is what I came downstairs to the morning after…
Two vases filled with Spring Sunshine.
2) There’s been so many times that I’ve said on here that the reason I tried so hard to be frugal was because I wanted to have as much money as possible to spend on the good things in life and that’s not changed.
So this week, we booked a holiday for later in the year that I am SO excited about.
But even though a holiday is a big purchase, I made sure we got the best deal – I literally shopped around and tried every website possible that offered holidays to where we wanted to go and when I found the cheapest, it happened to be the company we booked our holiday to Italy with last year.
I was pretty sure they’d emailed a voucher at the time we booked to be used on our next holiday but I couldn’t find it anywhere so I emailed them and asked if they could resend. They were more than happy to and it turned out to be £100 off the total cost of the holiday which was an amazing saving.
Not only did we get money off the booking, we also made sure that the hotel we chose was in a good location, despite being in the countryside, and had plenty of places to eat nearby that were affordable. There’s a bakery and a small supermarket within walking distance and a few takeaways nearby should we need them. This means that we won’t need to spend a fortune eating while we’re there.
We also only booked six nights instead of seven because in my multiple searches to get a great deal, we discovered that dropping the Saturday night at the start of the trip saved £130 each which was a huge chunk.
3) I bought two dresses from the charity shop in our village which I loved when I saw them on the hanger but when I got home and tried them on, they just didn’t look as good on me as they did in the shop.
I hate the thought of taking something back to a charity shop for a refund but I decided to put on my big girl pants and took them back in for a full refund and you know what? The lady was lovely and when I apologised, she said not to worry as it happens all the time.
Usually, I would just keep them and sell them on using Vinted – sometimes for more money if they were proper bargains when I’d bought them but sometimes I might lost a couple of pounds as Vinted is notorious for people trying it on for lower prices.
4) Talking of Vinted, I sold three more items this week on there making me £19 in total.
Selling on Vinted is never going to make me a fortune but it is a way to get a few pounds back for things that I don’t need anymore. I set myself a goal of listing one thing every day in April but have failed with that as I’ve only listed seven things so far this month.
5) I used the Vinted profits from the last month of so to book some airport car parking for our holiday and managed to get 20% of the cost of it back using TopCashBack.
I used £40 ish of Vinted profits so by the time I get my cashback, the parking will have cost less than £10 which isn’t bad as airport parking is super expensive.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I hope you’ve all had a happy Frugal week!
