Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Our tree is up.
I’ve read that it takes around 20 years for a fake Christmas tree to become more sustainable than buying a real one each year and although this one isn’t 20 years old, it’s about half way there and I love it so much that I can’t imagine it not lasting another 10.
We did consider a real tree this year but we have this one and it’s just the right size for our living room corner so we decided against it.
Also, I love that nature is a bit wonky and imperfect but honestly, I do love a nice even looking Christmas tree. 😉
And while we’re talking Christmas decorations, look what’s back! It’s my upcycled Christmas wreath which I made from a wreath I bought from M&S in the sale. It was reduced massively (pretty sure it was 70% off) but I hated the decorations on it. I bought it because the wreath itself was such good quality so I thought it was worth buying to upcycle and make something I loved.
I got it home and took of all of the decorations and bought a cheap pack of mini baubles and some mini trees (again, in the sale) and attached them as artistically as I could and I managed to turn my bargain wreath and baubles into a Christmas wreath worthy of any front door! It’s on it’s fifth year now I think so it’s well worth what I paid for it.
3) I’ve missed the last couple of weeks of these posts so I’m only just getting around to telling you about my one and only Black Friday purchase!
This perfume spray is at the top of Miss Frugal’s Christmas list but at £38, I was really reluctant to buy it. I was super pleased when I found it on Amazon with 25% off! Still a ridiculous amount for a body spray but it’s a tenner better than it was going to be so I’ll take it.
Also, if you have someone who is after this spray and isn’t bothered about the brand on it then Primark has a fantastic dupe for £3.50 which smells very similar to the branded more expensive version.
4) This week we went on a day trip which involved an airport – I’ll share more soon but when I looked up the cost of car parking for 24 hours at Manchester, it was £47 for the car park that we usually use. That was almost as much as we paid for the day itself so I couldn’t justify that at all.
I had a good old Google and found a website call Just Park where you can book a space on someone’s driveway for a much better price and we managed to book a space for £6 which saved us a fortune. It was super easy, you book your space, get a photo of where you need to park and then turn up and park. We were planning to walk the 10 minutes to the airport but we ended up getting an Uber as I was feeling a bit meh!
5) I managed to buy something off one of the Kids Christmas lists from Vinted for half the price it is selling for in the shops and it’s brand new and still sealed in it’s box!
I’m so happy with my purchase and know that it’s going to make someone happy on Christmas morning! I know I’ll be feeling a lot happier knowing I paid £20 and not £40 for it!
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things!
