Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) This is one of the biggest frugal things I’ve ever done. 😁
We looked at a house this week – a project house with a pretty big plot of land and I absolutely loved it despite the years of neglect and layers of dirt. It was affordable which probably isn’t a surprise seeing as you could see the sky from the living room and the fact that the house had so much junk in it that you could barely see the floor.
I can’t describe the level of work needed to make this house liveable but I genuinely saw past all of that and fell in love with what the house could be.
But… we walked away from it because we knew how much money and time to make it liveable, let alone make it the dream house that it could be.
This was the clearest spot in the whole property but it gives you an idea!
There was a three story outbuilding in the back of the house along with a shed, a double garage and a workshop. There were three cars parked in the back garden and a motorbike sitting in the middle of the front room but I know it could have been amazing.
We just didn’t want to commit to the money we know it would take so we won’t be buying it. 😥
2) Does this count as me being frugal?
Our shower turned itself off this week and wouldn’t turn back on which in my previous life, would have led me to searching for someone who would come out and fix it without charging me a fortune.
Instead, we decided to DIY it and see if we could fix it ourselves so off we popped to B&Q and bought a new pull cord thingy which ‘we’ then came home and fitted. It wasn’t as simple as just fitting it and there was lots of tools involved and a couple of trips up to the loft but it worked and we now have a working shower again for the grand total of £14.00.
I kept the snacks flowing and ran upstairs with random tools at least three times so it counts as a me being frugal thing, right?
3) My mint plant is planning world domination by the looks of it!
I’ve used it this week in my favourite mint and orange water, some minty peas and I’ve also frozen some in some lime flavour ice cubes which may or may not be a success – I’ll report back on that one!
4) I’ve drunk so much tap water this week!
Miss Frugal popped around this week and brought me a present of one of those huge drinking cups as a treat as I told her I needed to drink more water. Could anything be more frugal than drinking tapwater!
5) I am so over this weather! Honestly, I must have checked the weather app about ten times a day this last week so I can figure out when it’s ok to put my washing out!
I’ve pretty much mastered the art of rain dodging now so my washing is getting a good chance at drying on the line but I’m not perfect…
Check those socks on the line – we forgot about them and I’m not going out in the pouring rain to rescue them now.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things!
