Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Did you know that ‘Too good to go’ don’t only do food bags, they also do plant bags!
Our local garden centre do plant bags twice a week where you can choose between outdoor plants and indoor plants so this week I treated myself to an outdoor plant bag.
I picked up my bag yesterday and found two plants in there, both priced at £20 each and both look in a little bit worse for wear. I paid £7 for the bag so as long as the plants recover and I take care of them well ( thanks to Google for the advice on how to do this) then they’ll be brightening up my garden in no time at all. Or at the very least, they’ll flower again next year.
2) Still on the subject of ‘Too good to go’, we were travelling back from a short break this week when we realised that by the time we got home after a long day of travelling, there’s no way we would want to cook tea.
Instead of getting a takeaway, we had a look on ‘Too good to go’ and found a Costa bag for £4.00. I know that these bags are always a gamble as you never know what’s going to be in one but whenever I’ve had a Costa bag in the past, it’s always had a couple of sandwiches in it so it felt like a pretty safe bet.
We ordered our bag and thanks to some good timing, we were able to collect it from the Costa near our house on the way home. I went straight in and put the oven on to heat up the toasties and then while we emptied the car together, the toasties toasted.
Within 15 minutes of getting home, we had the car unloaded and we were sat on the sofa eating our tea.
3) OK, so this is the worst photo ever but it’s actually a picture of a petrol pump.
We drove past a petrol station on the way to our holiday camp and noticed how cheap the diesel was – we didn’t need any at that point as we’d filled up before we set off but we knew we would more than likely need some on the way back so we dropped a pin on Apple maps with the intention of stopping back there on our journey home.
We stopped in on the way home and it was even cheaper than on the way there (only by 1p but still) so we ended up saving around 7p per litre compared to the prices in our area which is madness. It’s not too much in the grand scheme of things but when you have a tank the size of a double decker bus (slight exaggeration) then it definitely helps.
4) The weather this week has been amazing, coming back from our trip away I was able to get through all of the washing and get it dried on the line which always makes me happy.
5) I don’t share as much on Instagram these days as I’m a bit more private but I have photos all around our house. We have so many of both sets of kids and us, places we’ve been and enjoyed and just happy memories all round.
I usually just print out a couple at home or at one of those photo print machines but I wanted a couple of larger photos printed out as I managed to get some reduced price frames from Tesco using the Clubcard discounts. The frames were £1.75 and were perfect as I wanted some larger prints of some of the views we’ve enjoyed to go above our bed instead of an arty style pictures but the size I wanted meant that I needed to find an online printing site. I tried Snapfish who I’ve used before and managed to get the four prints I wanted for under £5 which was a bargain.
While I was on Snapfish, there was an offer where I could get 50 prints (6×4) for just the cost of postage which was £1.99 so I went for it and picked a few of our recent happy memories to print out. these are pictures I wouldn’t normally have printed out but I’m so pleased that I did as we’ve all had lots of fun looking through them and a few of them went home with the older kids and some of them have appeared in the younger kids bedrooms so they’re clearly a hit with everybody.
I also love the pictures that I printed out to go in the frames and they look perfect where they are – they’re all spots that means something to us and it makes me happy to see them on our wall.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things!
