Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) I sold one of my favourite handbags.
I bought it during lockdown as a treat using some of the overtime pay I got from work. It wasn’t an easy time for lots of reasons aside from the obvious so I bought this as a real treat for myself and have loved it since.
But I’ve come to realise that it’s not practical and I’ve barely used it this year so I think it’s time that it went to someone who will love it and actually use it.
I was in no hurry to sell it though so I listed it on Vestiaire which is a site that sells designer items – you set your own price but buyers can choose to offer a lower price which you can then decline or accept. I declined loads of lowball offers but then this week I got an offer which was just short of my asking price so I accepted it and I’ve just dropped the parcel off at the post office to go to it’s new owner.
I have a very busy December and the money from this sale will really help me out.
2) This might not look like the best foodie picture but it’s a version of a pancake that I can eat as a diabetic. It’s mashed up banana, an egg and a handful of blueberries.
And not only that, it’s a bargain blueberry and banana pancake as I raided the reduced fruit and veg section in Tesco and bought two bananas that were about to turn for 14p and the blueberries were 59p for a good sized packet.
3) How’s this for a Too Good To Go bag?
£3.29 for a Cooplands bag which contained two bags of breadbuns, a steak slice, three yum yums, a sausage roll, an eclair, some kind of caramel swirl and a corned beef salad sandwich.
4) We found the most amazing free museum in the centre of Newcastle.
It’s called Seven Stories and is literally seven floors of fun dedicated to children’s books and literature and I can’t believe that I’ve never been before. It’s completely free and we spent a lovely couple of hours in there at the weekend.
It’s hard to find fun places to go with the kids that don’t cost a fortune so this was a fab little discovery! And right next door to the museum there’s a cute little city farm that is free to go in other than a totally voluntary donation in the form of buying bags of food for the animals at £2 a bag.
We had a lovely afternoon out for the grand total of £4 (two bags on animal food) which was a complete bargain.
5) I think I might have said this before but I tend to sign up for emails and newsletters for companies that I like to use in the hope of the occasional voucher and one of my favourites is the Toby Carvery. They email some great vouchers and this week, I got a 50% off voucher which will get us a carvery each for £10.
I do love a Toby Carvery as it means that I can make sensible diabetic friendly choices without feeling like I’ve missed out and 50% off is an added bonus. Not sure that we’ll actually be taking advantage of this as we’re really focusing on saving money this month.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things!
