Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) And here’s the way we like to start a Friday post…
I’m usually not a fan of roses at all so even when I see them reduced, I’ll generally just leave them there but last Saturday I found two bunches reduced to £1.05 a bunch so I decided to buy them to redo some photos on an old post – how to dry rose petals. They lasted literally 3 days which is one of the reasons why I’m not a fan of roses as they never seem to last long when I’m in charge of them but they were great for drying out so I have lots of dried rose petals to use for some projects I’m planning.
2) I absolutely get that this soup doesn’t look that appetising but it tastes the complete opposite of how it looks!
It’s basically a pre-prepared soup mix that I bought from Morrisons for £1 – I’m pretty sure it was called something like Winter Broth Mix and includes all sorts of veg and some pearl barley. I added in some Instant Pot shredded chicken that I’d made a batch of the night before and sprinkled in a healthy amount of dried chilli flakes then just cooked it on the hob for the time it said on the packet.
It was so tasty and filling that I’ll definitely be buying the mix again and was brilliant value considering the mix itself cost only a pound and easily made four portions.
3) Have you see the super pretty Bonne Maman jam jars?
I shared a couple of ways I use the empty jars a little while ago but this week I made one into a string dispenser by hammering a nail gently through the centre of the lid.
That saves me wasting string as it always gets tangled in something no matter how neatly I tidy it away!
4) Did you see my Baked Oats recipe on Sunday?
I made another batch on Sunday night and we resisted the temptation to dig in as soon as it came out of the oven like last time so I managed to portion it up and pop it in the fridge for breakfasts through the week. I’m not great with breakfasts so having something staring me in the face when I open the fridge is great for me.
If you fancy doing a bit of meal planning and prepping for breakfasts then you might also like my mini egg muffins and oven-baked pancakes but this is my favourite recipe so far when it comes to breakfast meal prep.
Although… the oven-baked pancakes are AMAZING! 😇
5) I had a bit of a life admin day last Sunday which always makes me feel good.
I started with a rejig of my monthly budget as my water bill and my energy bills have come down a little bit and I wanted to budget for some extra ‘fun’ money for the next couple of months. I also helped Master Frugal open his own bank account and set up a monthly transfer so his pocket money is automatically transferred to him every month on my payday.
Then I had a good old house clean, planned our meals for the week, did 16km on my exercise bike and collapsed in a heap on the bed wearing a unicorn face mask and did some holiday searching in case we can actually go on holiday at some point this year.
Come over and join our fab Facebook group – Spend Less, Live Better! We’ve hit 35,000 members in the group now so it’s a great place to be and I’ve got Miss Frugal in there helping me out now.
As always, we’d love you to join in with us by sharing anything you’ve done that’s been thrifty or frugal from your week – whether it’s an Instagram picture (#5frugalthings), a blog post or even a video. Just add your link to the Frugal Friday linky at the bottom of this post.
