Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Did you see my little charity shop haul post last Sunday? I needed some warmer clothes ready for the cooler weather as a lot of my clothes from last Winter are a bit big on me so I went for a wander around my two favourite charity shops and got some great little bargains. I’ll not share them all again as you can pop over and have a look at the post if you’re interested but this was one of my bargain buys…
It’s a Joe Browns dress that will be perfect for a cooler day at work. It’s so comfortable on and is super flattering so I know I’ll get loads of wear out of it. This wasn’t even my favourite buy though – but I’ll let you read the post to see what that was and the reason why.
2) Also, I should say that when I said that some of my clothes from last Winter are too big for me, I do only mean some as I am losing weight so slowly. 😂 I don’t mind as I don’t really put that much effort into it and I genuinely think that the slower it comes off, the more likely it is to stay off although the fact I’ve only lost a stone in a year does tell me I could do a bit more.
This brings me to the fact that I’ve re-downloaded My Fitness Pal which was something I was using daily until the start of Summer and I’ll be getting myself back on track to try and have a bit of a focus on it for the next month to try and get back into going on my bike and eating better again. I know I can lose weight a lot quicker than I am at the minute if I put some time into planning what I’ll be eating and doing some exercise so that’s my plan.
I use the free version of My Fitness Pal which is just what I need to keep track of my calories and exercise and saves £15.99 a month which is what the premium version costs. I have my trusty exercise bike and a bike in the garage which I really do want to get out and about on more along with YouTube which I use for things like Yoga tutorials (not often, don’t be that impressed) and mini spin classed on my exercise bike.
Getting healthy doesn’t need to cost you a fortune!
2) Last weekend, I took Miss Frugal’s car to get her a new tyre as one of hers was looking a bit iffy when we went out for tea the night before. Rather than take the easy option and just take it to Kwik Fit down the road, I did a bit of ringing around first to see what price I could expect to pay and I was a bit shocked at the differing quotes.
In the end, I went with a garage that came highly recommended and was around the second cheapest that I’d been quoted. The price I paid was around £30 cheaper than the most expensive quote so ringing around definitely saved me some money!
3) Poor little Monty had a sore ear on Sunday which was clearly bothering him. I didn’t want to pay for an emergency vets appointment (don’t worry, I would have booked him an appointment if it was that bad) so I went to Pets at Home to see what they had that could treat him.
I managed to get some ear drops for under £5 that sorted him right out! Had it been a weekday, I probably would have just reached for the phone and booked him a vet’s appointment which would have set me back £30 before I’d even paid for treatment and I never would have thought to see what over-the-counter help there was at the pet shop.
4) I’ve read a couple of posts where some people have put their heating on already! No judgement if you have but I’m definitely not ready for that yet – Master Frugal and I hate having the heating on and even when it’s really needed, we only have it on for the minimum amount of time that we can get away with it for. This probably sounds a bit mad but I feel like it dries the air out in the house when we have it on and our house heats up super quickly so we’ll be freezing one second and sweating the next which isn’t ideal. 😂
I bought myself a big snuggly jumper from Primark when I was camping as there were a couple of chilly nights so that’s now hanging on the back of my bedroom door to reach for when I feel the need and I also bought myself a warmer nighty last weekend with a thicker material than I’d usually wear and long sleeves (I know, sexy right?) so I can wear that on a cold night to save me putting the heating on.
