Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Master Frugal is now up and running with his provisional driving license and is ready to start learning to drive. I wanted to buy him a car to help him put into practice with me what he’d learned in his lessons in a similar way to how I used to take his older sister out for drives. The extra hours I could give her in the car really made a difference to her confidence and skill.
I am super lucky here as I know someone who was in the right place at the right time to buy a super cheap car that needed fixing up – everything that needed doing was something my friend could do and he was happy to do it in his own time which meant I literally just had to pay for parts.
The car was ready this week so I was able to get a car for Master Frugal for very little outlay which was perfect!
I saved on his car insurance this week by using comparison websites via TopCashBack and managed to get him a learner driver policy for around £40 a month which is amazing for a teen learner driver policy. I’m pretty sure that I have the cheapest possible policy out there for him and I got £30 cashback for going through TopCashBack.
2) I know I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I’d given my garage a good old declutter and clean up and the good news is that it’s still looking lovely and organised and I’ve been doing a bit more this week to organise what’s left a little bit better. 😇
I’ve made myself a little area on top of some drawers where I have a couple of big storage bags – one for things for the charity shop and one for things that I think will do well on a car boot sale so that I can keep things in one place.
When my charity shop bag gets full then I’ll just drop it off at the charity shop near me and start again and when my car boot sale bag gets full then I’ll probably move it to the back of the garage and start fresh with a new bag as I don’t think I’ll be having a boot sale until the Spring now.
I love a good car boot sale and could probably do one now if it was the right time of year but I just don’t think enough people will go to one on these cold Winter mornings to make it worth doing one so I’m just planning on being super prepared ready for next year.
3) Look at me today…
My feet are snug as a bug in a rug right now which means I don’t need to turn my heating on today while working from home. I have these on and a cup of mint tea on my desk so I am officially warm enough.
4) I’m pretty sure I’ve shared this River Island dress with you before when I first bought it last year for the bargain price of £3.49. Honestly, it was my favourite dress last Winter as it’s so comfortable and looks so lovely on with the shirred top and the frill detail on the skirt.
I think it’s probably one of my best pre-loved buys ever as I just enjoy wearing it so much so I was gutted when I realised that there were a few tears along the frills on the skirt. I wasn’t about to let it go though so I got out my trusty sewing kit (a teeny box with some needles and about two spools of thread in there) and sewed it back up so the dress is now hanging in my wardrobe again ready to help me through the cold months coming up.
5) I’ve been after a BloomChic dress for a while as I keep seeing them advertised on here and on Facebook but by time you pay for the dress and the shipping which is super high, they’re just not good value to me.. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before but last week, I had a cheeky look on Vinted to see what they had to offer and I managed to get two brand-new Bloomchic dresses for less than the price of one on their own website.
They look brand new too – wish me luck when I try them on.
