Every now and again (used to be weekly ;-), maybe it will be again) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
Ignore the shopping – I forgot my bag for life so used this instead.
I got it home and used one of A’s many, many tools to cut it off and another one to file down the rough edge I left and it’s now sat on top of the unit looking pretty whilst being practical as it’s filled with some random packs of sweets that are leftover from when we went to Bridlington for the day.
2) We went to the cinema on Sunday morning with the kids and it cost is the grand total of £10 for all four of us to watch Wonka as we booked the Cineworld Movies for Juniors screening which is where they show one film at 10am every Saturday and Sunday and reduce the ticket price to £2.50 per person as long as there’s a child in your group.
It used to be £1 each when I used to take my two and we have lots of happy memories of Saturday morning trips to the cinema so I love that the Movies for Juniors is still a thing so we can make some more happy memories.
3 and 4) This photo is actually a 2 in 1 frugal thing. 😉
3) First up is the obvious – washing hung out on the line for only about the third time this year thanks to the huge amounts of rain that we’ve had this year. I much prefer line dried washing but haven’t had the energy lately to run the risk of hanging it out to have to bring it in again minutes later when the heavens open.
4) Second up is the giant pink tablecloth which was my solution to a new dining room table. The one we have is pretty big (I’ve had my team of 8 from work sat around it pretty comfortably) but a little scratched up and stained. It’s in good condition aside from the surface damage so I thought a nice tablecloth would fix it. I bought this one at Dunelm Mill for £7.50 in their clearance section where it had been reduced from £30.
I wanted a black one rather than pink but figured it was actually cheaper to buy this one and dye it black than buy a similar good quality tablecloth in black. I haven’t got around to dying it yet as I decided I quite liked the pink when I got it home and tried it out on the table. I probably will still dye it at some point as I think black is more practical with two young kids in the house but for now, I’m holding on to the pink.
5) I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned that I’ve given up Pepsi Max! I know, this is huge!!!
I am happy drinking plain tap water or squash these days but I do like my flavoured waters and my favourite all time flavour is still orange and mint. I know I’ve mentioned this combo many times over the years since I first tried this when I went to a concert at Hyde Park on a super hot day. It’s just orange wedges with mint leaves popped in water and left in the fridge for a couple of hours to let the flavours do their thing.
I bought a mint plant about six weeks ago from Tesco and it’s still going strong despite being used for a fair few batches of this drink so it’s been super cost effective! Just look at how healthy it looks…
There’s little mini mint plants starting to sprout out around the base too!
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I really want this to be the start of me blogging more often.
Wish me luck!
