Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey!
1) And another week of Spring brings another bunch of bargain Spring flowers…
These tulips were a bargain at 88p and I love having them brightening up my living room! To me, tulips really represent Spring to me so I love having them in our house.
2) Our hoover isn’t as powerful as it used to be even though we’ve given it a good clean out. We were quoted £45 for a change of filters and a bit of a service but we decided to give it a go and do it ourselves so we ordered the filters from Amazon for £13 to give it a go.
It was easy to do in the end and it took hardly any time so I’m really pleased to have saved so much money just doing the job ourselves.
3) The kids wanted to go to the cinema to watch a film but I wasn’t feeling amazing so instead, we decided to have a movie night at home. We used a free movie download voucher from Rakuten that we got from our Octopus Energy ‘Octoplus’ account and bought some popcorn to fill the kids snack cups up.
It cost nothing and saved us a fortune!
4) We have a lot of ‘stuff’.
It’s because we blended two houses into one when I moved in here rather than because we buy lots of stuff and we’ve really been trying to declutter lately. This week was the turn of the DVD collection that’s been sat gathering dust on our shelves since I moved in.
With all the streaming services that are widely available now, DVDs are becoming a thing of the past and many people don’t even own a DVD player anymore – I know we don’t.
We considered boxing them up to sell at a car boot sale but decided that we just wanted the space so we downloaded the Music Magpie app and scanned them all in to see what price they would pay. Some they didn’t want so they went in a black sack to the charity shop down the road and the ones they were able to take made us the grand total of £29.74.
Not much at all for what we sold but we were getting rid of them to make space and to get rid of something we no longer needed rather than to make money so that was just an added bonus to the space we made.
We packaged them all up into a box and a courier was sent by Music Magpie for a day that worked for us and the money was then transferred to our bank account.
Space + Money = Result!
5) On the subject of decluttering, I also sold a couple of things on Vinted this week too.
One was a jacket that one of the kids has grown out of and the other was a Slimming World starter pack from 2023. I bought it and barely used it as I realised quite quickly that Slimming World wasn’t working for me in the way it used to – no doubt because I was diabetic (undiagnosed at that point) and the carbs were not great for me at all.
I made £15.00 from the two items which is pretty good as both items were just taking up space.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I hope you’ve all had a happy Frugal week!
