Every week I share five frugal things that I’ve done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
I’ve had a bit of a dramatic week this week which started with my lovely little Audi A1 being stolen, was followed by numerous interrogations with the insurance company and the police, and has ended with me still not having my bank cards back.
I have learned a few things from my experience though so I thought I’d share five learns from this week, each of which has saved me money in some way…
1) Gap Insurance when buying a car on finance is worth every penny that you pay for it. I paid about £9 extra on my monthly payments for mine and the peace of mind it’s given me right now is unbelievable as I’m not worried about the insurance valuation of my car knowing that my gap insurance has me covered.
2) You don’t have to pay a fortune to get someone to come out and change the locks on your house if you need them changed. You can do it yourself super easily – we unscrewed the lock, measured it, took a photo of it, and headed to B&Q for a replacement. You can buy high security for £23 or the one I ended up choosing which was £47 for the maximum security lock. It was really easy to fit and I didn’t have to pay a fortune for a locksmith.
3) Having my banking apps on my phone meant that I had my bank cards blocked before the police had even put me through to someone to speak to. It might have taken longer than I’d like for the replacement cards but at least no-one had the chance to use them before I could get them stopped.
4) Having a small stash of batch cooked meals in my freezer meant that I didn’t have to borrow too much money from others while I waited for my bank cards to be replaced. I might have had to do without Pepsi Max (I hate relying on others) but at least we didn’t starve!
5) When someone offers to buy you a coat because your favourite Winter coat was taken too, just say yes! Accept help from the people who care about you and don’t feel like you’re a burden. You’d do the same for them and honestly, arguing as much as I did before eventually losing anyway just causes offence when someone just wants to try and make it a little bit right again for you.
I’m sorry this is a very boring and basic post this week! I’ll be back to normal next week x x
