Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) Is there a better way to start these weekly posts than with some reduced bargain flowers?
This photo doesn’t do these little beauties justice but they are the most beautiful, giant roses. I stripped about 10 ugly petals from the whole bunch once I took them out of the paper and they just look amazing sat on my dining room windowsill. We spotted them in a flower shop this week when I was buying a little vase and my lovely partner spotted me looking at them and bought them for me. They weren’t super cheap at £4 but they were much reduced from their original price and the look pretty perfect now that the dead petals have been removed.
Also, remember my too good to go plant bargains from a couple of weeks ago? Well my rosebush has started flowering and we came home with this beautiful bunch of roses to find that a mini version of them in the same colours had blossomed on our mini rose bush.
I wasn’t expecting roses until next year at this point so I’m over the moon with this!
2) I had to travel to London last week with work which isn’t something I particularly enjoy doing as I’m very much a homebody who is happiest at home. I used to love travelling to big cities and exploring and at one point, a trip to London would have really excited me as I would have found a way to squeeze something in that I wanted to do like visit a museum that interested me or find somewhere to eat that everyone was talking about for one reason or another but these days, I just want to do what I need to do and get home as quick as I can (as quick as a three hour train will let me get home anyway).
I was super tempted to get an Uber from my hotel to the venue of the conference I was going to but I was a good girl and decided to save money and walk. It wasn’t a huge distance by any means, it was more the not knowing where I was going that I hate so the Uber would have been my preferred option usually.
I decided to save money, get in some steps and walk to the venue with the help of Apple Maps and with just two wrong turns (don’t even go there), I managed to get myself there with time to spare!
3) OK, this isn’t the best picture of me but I bought a hat from the charity shop in the village this week to keep me warm in the Winter.
It’s a North Face knitted hat which I love! You can tell it’s a good quality hat as there’s a fleece lining inside so it’s super warm and I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of it over the Winter and for £4 I think it was a great bargain!
4) I sold another handbag this week which was a bit of a bonus! I listed a few of my old handbags on Vestiaire Collective which is a site where you can buy and sell ‘designer’ goods – when someone buys something, you post it to Vestiaire to verify it’s genuine so a buyer can purchase your items knowing that they’ll be verified before their money is handed over to the seller.
I accepted a lower offer on the bag I sold due to the fact that it’s been on there for a little while and something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it so rather than this bag just sitting on the top of a cupboard, gathering dust, I thought I’d rather sell it for a slightly lower price and sell it on to someone who will love it like I did.
5) I took hundreds of photos on our recent holiday to Lake Garda and as always, I hate the thought of my favourite photos getting lost in the many I have on my phone so I decided to get some printed out.
I used Snapfish last time and got 50 photos (10×6) for the price of postage which I think was about £3.99 and I thought you got 50 prints free every month so I popped back on to get another 50 but I couldn’t get the credits to refresh so I was given a price of £8 something for this batch of photos which I decided against.
I did a quick search on Google and found a company called Free Prints who did 10 prints free with free postage so I went for that offer initially to check out the quality of the pictures. They advertise 45 free prints a month if you pay for postage but I went for the completely free offer and ordered my favourite 10.
I’m excited to get them here and in frames!
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things!
