Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey! 👐
1) I’ve just spent an hour or so listing some clothes that the kids have grown out of on Facebook Marketplace- this is what my camera reel looks like right now…
I sorted everything I wanted to get rid of into three piles – one to list on FB Marketplace, one to drop off at the charity shop in the morning and the other pile to be used as rags for my other half who fixes cars for fun in his spare time.
The things I’ve listed on FB won’t make me a fortune (if they even sell) but I thought it was worth a go – if they haven’t sold in a week then I’ll bag them up and drop them off at the charity shop too. 😊
In case you’re wondering, I went for selling them as bundles on FB and not selling individually on Vinted which is my usual preference because I’ve just been so busy lately that I know I would struggle to get things wrapped and posted at the moment. This way, people can rock up to my door to collect their bundle which is so much easier for me!
2) After school this week, we asked the kids what they fancied doing and they both asked us to go to to a soft play centre near us which was a no from us because (a) it was waaaaay too hot, and (b) it’s £9.50 each and it was waaaaaay to hot to be paying that much money to sit inside.
We had asked them what they wanted to do though so we didn’t want to say no outright to what they’d asked to do so we went with a different approach.
“That sounds fun! We were thinking of a bike ride to the playpark near the river but if you’d rather be inside getting all hot and sweaty then we’ll do that…”
They were totally onboard with our suggestion and all thoughts of soft play went out of their heads.
The ride we usually do is 2 miles to a playpark near the river which is very conveniently located in the grounds of a lovely family pub. We ride there, have a drink while the kids are playing and then ride the 2 mile back.
Much better than a couple of hours in a soft play centre!
3) We had a couple of hours free last weekend for a date but we’re really trying not to spend too much money at the moment as we’re planning for Summer when we know we have time off with the kids so we’ll be trying to cram in as much fun as we can to the time we have with them while they’re off school.
We decided to go to Beamish which is somewhere we go often with the kids. We often miss bits out that the kids aren’t keen on when we take them and we absolutely never get chance to just sit outside the pub and watch the world go by so we thought a trip on our own would be a good idea.
And obviously a cheap idea as we have annual passes. 🤣
We had such a lovely afternoon! Rather than walk around the whole place, we just wandered to a couple of the areas that we wanted to see and then managed to get a seat outside the pub where we sat and watched the band playing across the street and just took time to enjoy each other’s company!
A lovely afternoon for the cost of two drinks!
4) This one might surprise a few of you who have been around for a while! I’ve sold my Instant Pot…
My friend popped around this week and was telling me how much she wanted one and it occurred to me that I had barely used my it for months so I asked if she wanted to buy mine. She did. 😁 So she got an Instant Pot and I got £30 to pop in our Summer savings pot.
I used to use it all the time but honestly, these days I rarely do so it felt like time to pass it on and make some space on the counter.
5) I’m not a huge make-up wearer but I do pop a bit of foundation on most mornings to even out my skin and will sometimes pop some eyeshadow on too. I only ever have vaseline on my lips (they have had a lip blush treatment a couple of years ago though) so no lipstick for me and I rarely wear mascara as I end up looking like a panda within an hour of leaving the house.
Anyway, this is me this week…
I’ve been doing a seven day no make up challenge where I’ve not work any make up at all for the week (other than Vaseline but that’s not make up, right?) and I think I’m going to continue going forward as I don’t feel any different without make up on. I think I’m relegating the make-up to special occasions. Maybe!
That saves money because my foundation is one of the only things that I splurge on so to use it less means it’s going to last longer and need replacing less.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things!
