Every week (ish) I share five frugal things that I’ve done during the previous week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life.
Hey!
I think today is going to be a bit of a garden edition as the sunshine has made us want to sort out our garden ready for the Summer….
1) Before I start on the garden, let’s go with the first bargain flowers of the Spring…
My favourite flowers are daffodils and I really do want to plant some in the garden to flower next Spring but for now, bargain daffs from the shop will do me. This is two bunches reduced to 40p each in the fruit and veg shop in our village.
They were completely closed up when I picked them up but they opened up literally overnight and I woke up to this gorgeous display!
2) The mild Spring weather (and the fact that we’ve been able to clear the garden of the debris from the shed collapsing in the winds a while ago) has meant that I’ve been able to get out into our garden to take full advantage of the weather to dry our washing.
You can’t beat line dried washing, can you?
3) Our back garden is big but… there’s no grass!
I’d share a picture but we’ve still got a lot more work to do on it but we have a Summer house, a bike shed and two large sheds to the side with the rest of the area being paved which makes it super easy to maintain but at the moment it’s not the relaxing haven that I want it to be.
We’re starting slowly and treated ourselves to a raised planting bed from our local garden centre which was a bargain £25 and means that we’l be growing a few things this year – mainly herbs and some salad leaves to start with as it’s not a huge size. This is the start to me introducing green to our garden and it should pay for itself in no time.
4) I have some free coffee grounds from our local garden centre that I’m going to add to the compost that I put in my new little planter. Coffee grounds do something fancy when you scatter them around your garden and they do something even better when you add them to your compost heap if you have one.
5) We’ve registered with our local council to use our trailer at the local tip and can have up to 12 visits a year for free. We can fit a fair amount in our car but the tip is a game changer as we’re trying to have our big garden sort out.
I don’t think I’ve ever shared a picture of our trailer on here but it’s really pretty as far as trailers go – I’ll not share it today as it’s at the other end of the garden and it’s filled with rubbish but I painted it the same colour as our Summer House as I decided it needed to look pretty if it was going to be in the garden and not hidden away. .
This picture was taken last year so ignore the weeds and the state of the washing line! The Summer house and the trailer are such a pretty colour that it makes me smile, even on the dullest of days.
So, there’s this week’s five frugal things – I hope you’ve all had a happy Frugal week!
