Let me just say straight away that this isn’t a review. Or rather it is a review but one that I’m writing because I placed an order myself with Muscle Foods and I was so impressed with the quality of food for the price I paid that I wanted to share it with you guys too. Some of the links I’ve included are affiliate links though which means that if you do buy something, you’ll pay exactly the same but I might also get something too. Thanks. 😉
I don’t know about you but I always feel better buying something from a company when I’ve been recommended them by people that I know so when the third person in as many weeks recommended that I try Muscle Food for great value meat then I thought it was about time that I did!
I had heard of them before but I’d never really investigated them as the name ‘Muscle Food’ kind of put me off a bit as I picture a company like that doing all sorts of protein shakes and high protein foods for fitness types (which they do as well as what I’m going to tell you about). It turns out that as well as catering for the fit crowd, their great value meat packages are perfect for meal planning.
My first purchase was prompted by a Facebook advert and was very similar to this one which is on their site now:
(Ignore the Add to Basket button, this is just a screenshot. ;-))
In this particular hamper you get the following:
12 x 200g Premium Chicken Breasts (2.5kg)
2 x 170g Matured Grass Fed Rump Steaks
2 x 170g Matured Grass Fed New York Strips
4 x 100g Premium Pork Medallion Steaks
2 x 400g Extra Lean Steak Mince (800g)
2 x 400g Premium Chicken Mini Fillets (800g)
2 x 113g Extra Lean Steak Burgers
2 x 113g Premium Chicken Breast Burgers
6 x 75g Low Fat Meaty Pork Sausages
6 x 75g Low Fat Chilli & Garlic Sausages
12 x 30g Premium Chicken Breast Meatballs
1 x 30g Grillstock Deep South Steak Rub
This is pretty similar to the one that I got except I got chicken sausages instead of the chilli and garlic and I think I got more mince instead of the chicken fillets.
Before we got our order I was a bit worried about how safe it was to transport meat in this way but I was reassured when I had a quick Google and was very impressed to see that the packaging is guaranteed to keep the meat at the right temperature for 48 hours….
Everything was perfectly wrapped and chilled when ours arrived so all I had to do was pop it into freezer bags in portion sizes so I could get out just what I needed when I wanted it. I don’t have a great photo of my first muscle food order I’m afraid as I wasn’t planning on blogging about it but this is the one that Mr Frugal sent me as he was unpacking it and I was at work. He didn’t send a photo of everything as you can see, just the first things he pulled out of the box by the looks of it.
The highlight of our Muscle Food hamper by far were the chicken breasts which were absolutely delicious and I’ve since bought packs of the chicken breasts just on their own. They’re much bigger than the breasts you get at your supermarket and they don’t shrink when you cook them as they’re not pumped full of water. You really can taste the difference! This is a great deal for the chicken in my opinion:
I also loved the rump steaks which are so succulent and juicy and again definitely something I would buy again.
The only thing I wasn’t keen on in the pack that I got were the chicken meatballs as they tasted quite dry and Miss Frugal left all of hers and both myself and Mr Frugal could only eat a few of them. Obviously, with my track record, this could well be my cooking but I just thought I’d point it out!
It’s well worth having a look around the Muscle Food site regularly as they do weekly offers as well as special deals for new customers and if you don’t mind them emailing you, you get some great deals by email if you sign up to that too.
I hope you do place an order with them, let me know what you think?
