If the front of your fridge looks anything like mine does at the moment then this could be the post for you 😉
It’s covered in all sorts – artwork brought home from school at the end of the school term, party invitations, dental appointment cards, tickets and probably a fair amount of other stuff that I’ll no doubt uncover when I remove that little lot.
It’s basically turned into some sort of magnetic dumping ground and the problem is that there’s that much paper on the front of it now that I don’t really look at the things on there anymore. Â Hence the missed birthday party a few weeks ago!
So….. Here’s my new system.
The artwork has been moved to our Art Gallery wall which is now a permanent fixture in our kitchen.  We thought it would be rude to take it down after it was featured in our Frugal and Fun ebook, the Guardian Money online section and in the Daily Mirror 😉
I’ve started to use Google calendar to keep track of things we need remember. Â I’ve added all appointments and parties to it along with times, locations and any other important information that I’m likely to forget. Â I’ve also added in birthday’s and while we’re on that subject, I bought a box of birthday cards from the supermarket so I always have one on hand. Â When I use one, I buy another one to replace it!
I’m going to be using it to keep track of any blogging commitments that I have as well so I won’t forget important things I’m supposed to be doing – like asking you all to share your posts with this month’s brilliant Thrifty Families Carnival. Â The carnival is live now over at A Thrifty Mum so I’m definitely too late to ask you now but I have a note in my calendar to remind you in time for next month’s carnival!
I’ve revamped the Wall Menu Planner that I made a while ago and I do much prefer the newer version.  It means we can see clearly what we’re having and not have to squint as the previous paper I used was lovely but a bit too busy to be used  for this.  I bought the paper for this at Tesco and it’s actually two sheets of wrapping paper  – The stripey sheet is perfect as it has a stripe to write the day’s meals on and the circle paper contrasts lovely with it.  It only cost 94p and I love it.
I’m quite impressed with this weekends organisation 😉
I’m working Monday to Friday this week so with the kids being off, I’ll just be glad to keep the house looking halfway presentable although I do have a few jobs that I want to try and get done.
Monday – sort out all of the empty cardboard boxes from the garage ready for Wednesday’s recycling collection.
Tuesday – try and get my haircut.
Wednesday – sort out the cupboard under the sink which appears to be filled with junk.
Thursday – Find a home for the many chick lit books I have – I bought a box of about fifty on eBay for £2 (bargain I know) a while ago so I’d like them all to go to a good home now I’m done with them
Friday – Find a home for our old guinea pig hutch.
Feel free to join in with me if you want to get organised too….
