Today I’m going to share with you my healthy homemade slow cooker tomato sauce recipe.
There are lots of reasons why I love my recipe for slow cooker tomato sauce and why I think you’ll love it too – it’s cheap, it’s versatile, it takes two minutes to prepare and most importantly, it tastes delicious!
I generally make it using things I already have in the house so the ingredients like the garlic, chilli and basil are often from my spice rack rather than being fresh but that’s just because I have it in already – you can substitute anything you need to. You can also adjust the quantities depending on what you know your family will like.
How to make slow cooker tomato sauce
3 tins of chopped tomatoes (I like the ones that already have herbs in them but don’t add so much basil if you use this type)
1 finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp garlic powder (fresh garlic if great if you have it in)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp paprika
A sprinkling of dried chilli flakes (optional)
1tsp sugar (or artificial sweetener if you prefer)
1 tbsp dried Basil (fresh is good too)
All you need to do to prepare it is mix all of the above together in the slow cooker and leave it on low for 6 hours while your slow cooker does all of the work for you!
When it’s done, I tend to freeze it in small batches so I can make quick and easy meals with it!
If I want it a little smoother then I take out about two thirds of it and blend it until it’s smooth. Then I add it back in to the chunkier sauce and mix it all together.
It’s so versatile easy to double (or triple) up on the quantities to make a huge batch if you wanted to.
