Christmas has officially started in our house.
It actually started a week last Saturday when the Coca Cola advert was on during one of the ad breaks in X Factor – my Twitter and Facebook streams went mad for a little while after the advert had been on because everyone knows that the Coca Cola advert heralds the start of the festive season*.
If I get this excited about an advert of a truck, can you imagine how excited I was to find out that that the real truck was going to be quite close to where we live on it’s tour of the UK?
Our adventure started like this:
What my friend actually said:
That Coca Cola truck is causing chaos with traffic – it just said on the radio that the traffic’s not moving for miles around it!
What my selective hearing heard my friend say:
I can’t believe the Coca Cola truck is so close – you really should take the kids to go see it. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.
I bundled the kids and Mr Frugal up into the car and we set off to see the truck – all happy and excited that we were off to see the iconic truck (actually, I was excited, they were just humouring me)!
An hour and a half into the twenty minute journey when we were at a standstill on the longest road in the world with no way of turning around, I remembered what my friend had said about the traffic. It possibly wasn’t the best thing to do to actually tell Mr Frugal that I had kind of known about the traffic.
He wasn’t a happy bunny and we *may* have spent the next forty five minutes in silence. Actually, it’s not silence when one of you keeps muttering ‘I can’t believe you knew about this bloody traffic’ every two minutes but there you go.
Anyway, we got there and got parked and the sight of the iconic truck put a smile back on his face so he forgave me and all was well again.
We joined one of three long queues and excitedly waited our turn to get to the truck and have our photo taken. It looked like there was a queue for the front, back and the middle of the truck and we were in the one that we thought was to get our photo taken in front of the middle of the truck.
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. After half an hour, we got to the front of the queue and were given a can of coke! Not even a normal sized can of coke, just a mini one. We’d only been queueing in the wrong queue – we were in the queue for the free cans of coke!
By now, we were feeling cold and far from festive so we decided to take a few photos of our own and get back home to the warm….
Not a great picture but it’s of us and we saw the Coca Cola truck so it’s good enough for me. Although I think I may have ruined the Coca Cola Christmas spirit for future as Mr Frugal and the kids now groan whenever the advert come on now!
*Not really, I know 😉
