A few years ago I had a go at making Skittles Vodka and the result was amazing!
This Christmas I seem to have developed a Pinterest inspired candy cane obsession so I thought I’d have a go at making candy cane vodka to see if it could top the skittles version.
It was actually easier to make than the skittles vodka as there was no faffing about with separating the colours or straining the drink before it was ready to serve and it has a lovely Christmassy flavour. It also looks very pretty and would make a lovely gift for someone who enjoys the odd tipple at Christmas.
I got my bottle (and the vodka that I used as well to be honest) from Jen as she took pity on me one day this week and came and got me to take me to her house so I could stare at her four walls instead of my own four walls for a change. She made me soup for dinner and even prepared the bed for me in case I wanted a lie down. While I was there she fed my new found candy cane obsession by making this with me. It was one of my favourite days since my op – not least because I came home with this gorgeous treat!
Anyway, back to the vodka!
How to make Candy Cane Vodka
You need vodka, a pretty bottle, a funnel (optional) and some candy canes and yes, I know there’s no measurements but that’s because it totally depends on the size of your bottle and how minty you want the finished candy cane vodka to be.
All you need to do is break your candy canes into pieces and pop them in your chosen bottle. I used two (kind of two – I nibbled half a one while we were making it) to start with but added in a couple more later on as it wasn’t minty enough for me. Then just top up the bottle with vodka leaving enough space at the top that you can pop more candy canes in if you need to.
This was the candy cane vodka just after we’d made it – an hour later and the candy cane was almost completely dissolved and the vodka was totally pink. This is when we added the extra candy canes.
I can’t drink it right now but I have had a finger dip so I know it’s delicious and I can’t wait until I can have a proper drink of it!
