When was the last time you fully stopped to embrace the nature around you?
By surrounding yourself with nature, it becomes easier to switch off, unwind, and feel relaxed, whilst also giving kids (and grown-ups) the opportunity to run around and let off some steam while exploring their surroundings.
Wherever you’re going for your family holidays UK, here are just a few ways you can embrace nature on your next family adventure, whether you’re headed near the coast or more inland.
Take a walk
There’s nothing better than fully immersing yourself in the great outdoors. Come rain or shine, there’s always somewhere to explore and something to discover.
Wherever your staycation has taken you, heading out for a walk as a family is a great way to immerse yourselves in nature. Make the walk more fun for the littlest explorers of your group by asking them questions along the way, such as ‘how many trees do you see?’ or ‘can you find something red?’ or ‘what do you see on the ground’, or ‘what can you hear?’ for example.
If you’re traveling with someone who uses mobility aids, consider investing in mobility equipment like mobility scooters to ensure everyone stays included and enjoys family walks together
Bike Ride
If biking is more of an activity you like to do as a family, go for a bike ride to explore your staycation destination. Find some local cycle paths or trails, or simply see where the wheels take you.
Another way to get the kids involved is to ask them to choose a destination to cycle to. Or, if you’re making up the route as you go along, ask them whether they want to go left, right or straight ahead, to make them feel involved as you explore.
Eating Alfresco
A great way to take in your surroundings is to eat outside. Whether that is a picnic in a field or within a designated picnic area, laying the table outside for lunch and/or dinner, sitting along a wall looking out to sea, or perched up a hill on a bench with a packed lunch. The options are endless.
It is also good to note here, that as we are talking about nature, we look after it on our travels, so if you do have a picnic or a bite to eat, please make sure to take your rubbish with you or put it in a nearby bin.
Be barefoot
Also known as ‘earthing’, why not take a moment to feel your surroundings with your feet? Take your shoes and socks off and feel the ground beneath your feet – if safe to do so.
Feel the sand between your toes, the water of the sea or stream washing over your feet.
Stop and watch
Take time to stop what you’re doing and take in your surroundings. Spotting animals going about their day in their natural habitats, hearing birds sing or animals calling out to one another is a great way to immerse yourself in nature.
Take a moment to breathe it all in.
So, will you be embracing nature on your next staycation?
