Family time is always a special time, but if you keep doing the same things every week, it can become a bit stale.
That’s why it’s always good to spice your bonding moments with some creative ideas that keep everyone engaged, happy, and entertained.
Luckily, there are plenty of ways you can do this, including these eight activities that guarantee fun and good times.
- Outdoor Movie Nights
If you have got a reasonable-sized backyard, then turning it into an outdoor cinema is an excellent thing to do.
All that is required is a projector, a blank wall or screen, and some cosy seating like bean bags or picnic blankets. However, as an added touch, a few fairy lights make create an excellent ambience.
Once set up, simply choose movies that are appropriate for everyone and add popcorn, homemade snacks, and warm drinks to enhance the experience.
For those who don’t have a backyard, try setting it up in the garage with some themed decor.
- Make Art
Kids love to make art, so why not unleash their (and your) creative side by partaking in various activities such as painting, drawing, making friendship bracelets, or scrapbooking?
The perfect activity for a rainy day, making art can be both rewarding and relaxing and make the day go quickly.
However, art can be messy. So, if you don’t fancy the prospect of extensive cleaning, why not enroll in family-friendly Pinot and Picasso paint and sip sessions instead?
The team there takes care of the tidying up while you get to keep what you create.
- Boardgame or Card Nights
Remember when you were growing up as a kid and used to love playing Monopoly, The Game of Life, or Blackjack? Well, why not revisit your youth by enjoying family board games or card nights?
With technology often pulling family members into their own digital bubbles, dedicating some time every week to these tech-free game nights can be a refreshing change.
Just remember to engage, laugh, and create memories, and not let a competitive nature ruin the experience.
- Family Fitness Challenges
It’s always good to exercise and stay physically active, but sometimes it can be hard when work, school, and other commitments prevent you from doing so.
For this reason, it’s a good idea to turn exercise into a family affair through fun fitness challenges. This could be anything from swimming a certain number of lengths or walking a specific target of steps together to doing yoga, hiking, biking, or dancing.
Basically, anything that will get you all off the couch and moving about is worth doing because not only will you feel better for it, but you will also be able to spend some enjoyable, quality time together.
- Gardening Together
If you have a garden, why not take the opportunity to teach kids about nature, responsibility, and patience by growing something with them?
Creating a family garden is an excellent thing to do because it enables children to spend lots of time in the fresh air and grow flowers, herbs, or vegetables.
To get your children excited about gardening, it’s a good idea to get them to watch Mr Bloom’s Nursery on the CBeebies Channel or Gardening Australia Junior on ABC Kids.
Once they are excited about the prospect of horticulture, here are some of the best plants to grow with kids.
- Learn Something New Together
It’s always good to expand your family’s horizons by developing a new skill or hobby together. So, why not commit to learning a new language, playing a musical instrument, making pottery, or photography?
You’ll find several online platforms that offer courses on everything from coding and cooking to Yarn bombing and Yo-Yoing. There is bound to be something you quite fancy trying, so long as you are open to it.
- Start a YouTube Channel
There are more than 114 million active YouTube channels, a decent number of which are run by families. Some of the most popular include Not Enough Nelsons, LaBran Fam, Family Fun Pack, and The ACE Family.
While these are all hugely popular (The ACE Family now has over 16.5 million subscribers), they all started at zero. So, why not take up the challenge of growing a massive subscriber base?
Who knows, you might even make some good money while doing it through advertising revenue.
If you don’t fancy doing it for money but just for fun, look at it as a great way to record some awesome family memories.
- Family Talent Show
Have you ever watched Britain’s Got Talent, The X Factor, or The Voice and thought you could do better?
Well, why not put it to the test by holding a family talent show?
This is a great way to encourage your children and yourself to develop new abilities. It doesn’t matter if it is singing, dancing, impressions, or doing magic tricks. The onus should be on having fun.
That said, there is no harm in having a prize for the performance that was voted the best!
Have fun!
