If you follow me on Instagram then you’ll probably already know how much I love a good bunch of bargain flowers and at least once a week I stalk the reduced section of our local supermarkets to see if I can find a good deal. If you time it right, you can get some gorgeous flowers that will look fab for a good week for just a pound or two.
I often see some great reductions on houseplants too but I’ve always avoided them in the past because I don’t have the best record with managing to keep houseplants alive! But last year, I couldn’t resist this little guy for £1.50 so I popped him in my trolley and resolved that this was going to be the plant that I managed to keep alive for longer than my previous record of around three weeks.
You’ll be pleased to know that not only is he still going strong but also that he was actually the first of many (by many I mean five) houseplants that have now successfully beaten my previous three-week record and are now flourishing around my house somewhere.
My newfound love of houseplants has also inspired a love of pretty plant pots so when Wayfair sent me an email asking if I’d like to review some of the gorgeous Ivyline pots and planters I replied straight away with a big fat ‘yes please’. 😉
I wanted to give my picture shelves in the kitchen a bit of a makeover and also do something to bring a bit of life to the shelf on my radiator cabinet in the kitchen.
The Kitchen Garden Shelfie
The first pots that I chose were these gorgeous little concrete style plant pots which I thought would look good filled with some herbs. They come in a set of four and are the perfect size for the picture shelf I have on the back wall of my kitchen.
I planted up some basil, thyme and mint and I absolutely love how they look (and smell). I’m almost tempted to go back and get another set of four so I can have more herbs growing but I do have my little outdoor DIY herb garden and also, I think the pots really compliment the photos I have on the second shelf so for now, I’ll leave it at just the four – watch this space though as I am super tempted.
The Tropical Shelfie
You know when you buy something that you absolutely love and then get it home and realise that you have absolutely nowhere that it will really go? That was me after I got these two little flamingos home last year…
Honestly, I have so much love for them but I’ve really struggled to make them fit anywhere and not look out of place. That’s why when I saw these absolutely stunning daisy plant pots, I knew exactly what I was going to pair them with to make the perfect colourful shelf.
I love how they go together and a random pom pom garland that I’ve had for years just finishes it off. I bought the two yellow flowered plants reduced to 90p each and the larger plant which I think is actually called a Flamingo plant was reduced from £5 to £2.50 in our local supermarket. I do love the Flamingo plant but I’m thinking that may be better elsewhere as it does kind of take over the whole shelf. I also picked up a cactus half price that I think might look better in this pot – what do you think?
The Zen Shelfie
As much as I love the tropical shelfie, I wanted to do something a bit more me for my last shelfie so I want for some beautiful classic white geometric style pots and honestly, I think this is my favourite of all three looks.
The centre plant was reduced to £3 from £8 as a couple of the flowers had fallen off in the shop but the rest have stayed put since we got it home so maybe someone was just a bit rough with it. I’m not 100% sure what it is as the reduced label covered the name up and Mr Frugal was a bit eager with his tidying up so the packaging ended up in the bin before I could check it out.
The plants either side were reduced to £1.02 earlier this week but again, I have no idea what they are. The labels just said houseplants so I’ll probably nip over to Instagram at some point to ask the very clever people on there what they actually are so I know how to take care of them.
I’m a huge fan of Wayfair and love to look on there for inspiration as they have a huge range of home furnishings and decor. I’ve bought a few things from there in the past and I was just scrolling through my Instagram feed to find a couple of things I’d bought from there when I realised that the quote canvas hanging above my shelf in the last photo was from there. 😉 They offer great value whatever your budget is and I often find things that look a lot more expensive than they actually are.

This post is in collaboration with Wayfair but all the opinions about the prettiness of the pots are all my own. 😉
