Is this time of year the best time to buy a pre-loved tent?
I think it is – especially as I just got a great deal on a tent myself on Facebook Marketplace.
Next year’s holiday is highly unlikely to be a trip abroad for us so after the success of this Summer’s camping trip, I thought investing in a bigger tent might be worthwhile. The problem is that tents are actually super expensive and after several trips to Go Outdoors to get an idea of the kind of tent that would work for us, I realised that although camping would mean we could have a really good value getaway next Summer, it would mean an outlay the equivalent of a city break holiday to get a new tent.
I gave up on the idea of a new tent until a couple of weeks ago, a second-hand one popped up for sale in my Facebook feed and for what it was, it was an absolute steal at £90. The tent was huge with two bedrooms and a large living space and the seller was also including the porch for the tent which added a few extra square meters to the usable living space and there was also a carpet included.
I missed out on that one unfortunately but Facebook being Facebook, it then proceeded to present me with tents for sale across the UK every single time I scrolled through. That meant I saw lots of great value tents of all sizes, shapes, and colours over the following week – so many of which I would have been more interested in had they been closer to me for the collection.
Then a week after the one I missed out on the £90 tent that I’d really wanted, the exact same tent came up again with all the same extras for £100 about five miles away from me. It was a different seller but I think it might have been the same tent as the man I collected it from said his wife had bought it not long ago but it was too big for them and she’d been sucked in by the cheap price as it was such a bargain. 😂 He pointed out that it would be all they could take in their car as it was so big that it filled the boot and he’d have two kids on the back seat in car seats so whilst it was a great deal and a fab tent, it just wouldn’t work for them.
Their loss was my gain though as I picked it up last Sunday morning and it’s perfect! This is the tent on the Go Outdoors website without the porch…
And this is the tent pitched with the porch that we got with it…
What a bargain, hey?
But there are plenty of similar bargains out there right now as the camping season is over for all but the most seasoned of campers. I’ve seen tents for sale at great prices because people have (a) decided that camping isn’t for them so they won’t be using the tent again next year, (b) upgrading themselves while tents are selling for so little or (c) they’re decluttering and a tent takes up a LOT of storage space with all the extras so if they’ve not used theirs in a while then they’re selling on.
So if you think you’re going to be camping for your 2023 Summer Holiday then I strongly recommend having a cheeky little look for a pre-loved tent now. You have plenty of time to be on the lookout for a bargain so pop onto the Facebook Marketplace and set yourself a search for a tent by popping that in the search box and clicking on ‘notify me’.
You never know, you might get a bargain like me and your future self will be very grateful!
