I read a post yesterday by Nicola over at My Frugal Cottage about her goals for July, both financial and personal, and it really got me thinking about whether that’s something that would work well for me. I’ve seen a few similar posts recently and every time I read one, I say to myself that I’m going to do something similar but I’ve never actually got around to doing it until today….
July’s Financial Goals
It’s an expensive month this month with the end of the school term fast approaching and the new school uniform I need to buy for Master Frugal. I can buy his sister’s over the Summer but his has to be ordered and paid for on Monday night when I got to the parents night and I think that’s going to set me back £100+ so my goals below reflect that I know I’m going to be spending a fair amount of our spare money on end of term activities and over-priced uniform.
Weekly shopping budget – £75.00 including everything hopefully. This is more than I used to spend but less than I spend right now as I’ve lost my focus on meal planning a little bit lately.
No Spend Days this month – 15 which means that on 15 days this month we don’t spend anything at all on anything. This is something we haven’t done in a long time but I think we really need to concentrate more on our spending and I’m hoping that this will help us with that.
Debt – One of these days I will be completely debt free but I know I could be doing more to get there quicker. This month I’m going to pay at least £200 more than I usually pay.
Christmas – I’d like to put at least £50 away for Christmas but this is the lowest of my priorities this month so I’m not too bothered if this one doesn’t happen.
Saving – I’d like to save some money for our holiday spending money in August. No figure on this one as I need to see how much I make.
July’s Personal Goals
My main goal is just getting to the end of the school year in one piece I think! It’s going to be a chaotic few weeks and I have a LOT to fit in – birthday parties, junior prom, parents nights, school fairs to name just a few. I also have a lot going on at work too so I’m going to be running on empty by the time they break up I suspect!
Garden – I want to get rid of the trampoline and get some grass seed down on the patches of dead grass so that the garden is almost an extra room over the Summer. I also want to do some research and find some plants that bees and wasps don’t like in an effort to keep them away.
De-cluttering – I want to continue de-cluttering and my aim is to get two more bin bags filled and to the charity shop this month.
Family time – At least three nights a week I want to be getting out somewhere with the kids as a family, even just a walk by the beach with the dog. A the kids get older, they naturally want to spend more time with their friends and I love that but I just want to make sure that we still have time for us.
Freezer – I want to try and use up everything in the freezer ready for a couple of big batch cooking sessions I have planned for my time off in the Summer.
July’s Blog Goals
I love blogging and want to try and improve in some areas of it but I do worry that if I set goals and targets for myself that it would take some of the enjoyment away and that I was no longer blogging for fun as I am now. That said I would like to try and get better at all of the stuff that goes with blogging so I’ve set myself some blogging goals for July. I won’t share them here and I might not update you on them but they’re there and I know what they are. 😉
