Anyone who knows me will know how much I love a good list so when the lovely Kate resurrected Listography to share some pretty big blogging moments along with her favourite all time posts then I knew I had to join in the fun.
I’ve had so much fun searching through my archives for my favourite posts and I struggled to narrow it down to five if I’m honest but I managed in the end so here we go – my five favourite posts ever….
I chose this post because of the amazing feedback I’ve had from it and the number of people who have gone out of their way to email me to thank me for writing it. It’s basically a round up of lots of my posts in one place with ideas on small things we know we should be doing to save money but lots of us probably aren’t.
How one kind act made me want to embrace Mothers Day for the first time in 10 years
This one was a pretty emotional post to write to be honest as Miss Frugal did something that made me feel ready to celebrate Mothers Day properly again for the first time since my Mum died. Since she died I’d just been going through the motions but hating the fact that my Mum wasn’t here but this one little thing changed how I felt about the day and helped me realise that it wasn’t all about me.
This is another post that made me cry a bit when I write it as I was feeling so proud of both children after their school reports and it had nothing to do with academic results. It was the night that it became clear that we’d made the right decision when it came to us making our hardest parenting decision yet and choosing to send Miss Frugal to a school where you didn’t know a single person. It was also the night when we were told by Master Frugal’s teacher that he was generally awesome all round which is always a pleasure to hear.
A Viral post following a tragedy
This is one of my proudest moments blogging because I feel like I actually made a difference. I made a quick image of how to prepare grapes for young children after a local tragedy left a family without their young son when he choked on a whole grape. It was awful and I just felt like I had to do something to let people know of the dangers and within days, I was seeing the image above in my Facebook feed being shared all over the world thousands and thousands of times. I was over the moon that so many people saw it even though no-one knows it came from my blog as there was no blog badge on the first picture I did. One lady who shared it was sharing it because she had almost lost her young toddler and her post was shared over 10k times with so many comments from people saying they had no idea.
This post is in my favourites because my house has never smelled the same since I started making my homemade febreze. Its cheap, it’s easy and it smells amazing!
So there you have it, my top five favourite posts from The Diary of a Frugal Family.
It’s been an amazing six years with so many opportunities that I would never have had if it wasn’t for blogging and I’ve definitely grown as a person and as a parent thanks to my little corner of the internet.
Thank you.
