The first bargain I want to share this week is the outfit I bought for Miss Frugal’s first grown up disco the week before last. She was so excited about this disco as it’s the first one since she went up to the Juniors and even though she’d been talking about it for weeks beforehand, it wasn’t until the night before that she decided that she wanted a new outfit to wear.
I told her she didn’t need new clothes as she had plenty in her wardrobe and marched her upstairs to prove my point but her bedroom looked like a jumble sale – she’d already tried almost everything in her wardrobe on and discounted everything as too small, too big, too babyish, too warm or my personal favourite – too scratchy!
Imagine what she’s going to be like when she’s a teenager!
I know some people think that children shouldn’t be given the opportunity to be fussy about their clothes and should wear what they’re told to wear but I think that it’s important to let them develop their own sense of style and to learn to be an individual (within reason) so even though I knew that any one of the outfits that she’d tried on would have been fine, because it was so important to her, I agreed to take her on a shopping trip to get her something new to wear.
We looked round all the clothes shops in our town and didn’t find anything she loved (there’s not that many) so we decided just to quickly nip in the charity shop before we rang Mr Frugal to come and pick us up. I’m so pleased we did because we found the loveliest pink chiffony top for £1.50. Immaculate condition, perfect fit and more importantly, it was pink and floaty which was apparently what we’d been looking for all along.
She wore it with a pair of leggings and some flat pink sandals and looked even more gorgeous than usual (I know, I’m biased lol) – she came home and couldn’t stop smiling about the fun she’d had and about how pretty the top made her feel. So we got a beautiful top with added self confidence for just £1.50 – Now that’s a bargain 😉
My next bargains cost just 50p from the car boot sale – Two tall beer glasses that are perfect for the ice cream floats that Mr Frugal has introduced the kids to recently, I can’t stand them myself but the kids love them and these glasses are ideal as the drinks don’t pour out over the top of the glass when it starts to froth up….
If you love a good bargain, you should pop over to Me and My Shadow and look at all the other posts linked up to Magpie Monday and even better, if you’ve got some bargains to share you should join in so I can see them 😉
