I was feeling rather pleased with myself when I shared last week’s meal plan because I’d worked really hard in the few weeks before to make sure we had a week’s worth of meals in the freezer so that in the days after my operation, we didn’t have to worry about what we’d be eating (or rather I didn’t have to worry about the kids being subjected to Mr Frugal’s cooking).
I’m not sure what I was expecting recovery wise but I kind of had last Friday in my head as the day that I’d be up and about and well enough to be pottering about so I made sure that I had enough meals ready to go to last us until Saturday just in case and then I was pretty confident that I’d be back in the kitchen cooking Sunday dinner, albeit needing more help than usual.
Life never works out as planned though does it? On Friday, rather than starting to feel a bit better, I actually felt worse and had to have an emergency Dr’s visit to up my pain relief and I’ve spend most of the weekend in bed which has really upset me.
I’m starting to feel like I’m letting the kids down because I just can’t do anything with them at the moment and Master Frugal almost broke me today when he came and laid next to me. He put his arm round me and gave me a kiss and said that he couldn’t wait till I was better so we could go places and have fun again. He misses me and the things we used to do together and he’s not the only one – I miss me too.
I’m sending Mr Frugal shopping tomorrow when he comes in and I’ll be choosing meals that the kids can cook for tea as they really want to help out in whatever way they can. Mr Frugal is currently chief cleaner, washer, taxi driver, homework helper and everything else that we normally split between us as well as working full time and looking after me so if the kids can cook tea then that’s one less thing for him to have to do. That and the fact that he really cannot cook to save his life!
It surprises some people that my two can cook meals at 11 and 14 but it really shouldn’t. I absolutely think they should be able to cook and I regularly spend time with them in the kitchen teaching them new things.
The list below is the list of meal ideas that we’ve just come up with that they would like to cook this week and they’re going to take it in turns to choose one to cook together….
Tuna crunch with cheese and jacket potatoes.
Omelettes.
Pizza and pizza calzones.
Stir fry.
Soup and toasties.
Dippy egg and soldiers.
They can cook a lot more than this though, these are just the meal ideas they came up with for this week. Master Frugal makes amazing french toast and Miss Frugal can cook most things that she has a recipe in front of her for.
Thanks goodness I don’t have to rely on Mr Frugal cooking this week!
Have you got any meal ideas for kids to cook that we can try?
